The Director directs the administrative financial clinical and nonclinical operations and activities of the Augusta Health Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders including hematology radiation oncology infusion services hereditary and highrisk program research and navigation services. Working in collaboration with the Medical Directors of Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology the Director will work with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement longterm operational and strategic initiatives for oncology and hematology services. Responsibilities include patient experience accountability program development business development marketing oversight operations management staff development program accreditations medical staff relationships and financial accountability.
As the service line leader assists in setting and leading implementation of service lines strategic direction across Augusta Health with its Senior Leadership and the Medical Staff. The director also establishes collaborative relationships with and engages various departments managers and providers within the hospital and ambulatory sites as integral parts of the development of the service line.
Education Licensure/Certification and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in healthcare administration or related field required.
- Masters degree in business healthcare administration or related field preferred
- Registered nurse radiation therapist or other relevant clinical certification/licensure preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in healthcare management.
- 3 years experience in oncology/hematology practice administration preferred.
Essential Job Duties:
- Coordinates personnel activities to include but not be limited to new employee orientation counseling staff development opportunities:
- Develops and maintains an appropriate orientation program for new employees and ongoing education for current staff.
- Evaluates orientation policies and procedures and recommends revision as necessary.
- Provides input to educational program development assuring that input from department is accurate and relevant.
- Clinical Management:
- With the Operations Manager supervises all departmental activities related to patient care.
- Ensures that patient care needs are met in an appropriate fashion and in a timely manner.
- Assesses the delivery of care and identifies problems and any need for improvements.
- Plans ways to solve problems and to make improvements in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with the organizational leadership.
- Assures intradepartmental and interdepartmental services function effectively and efficiently.
- Works to effectively integrate services as appropriate.
- Keeps organizational leadership informed on reportable situations and operational needs.
- In collaboration with the leadership team develops and implements a plan for departmental growth:
- Formulates long and shortterm goals for department within the framework of organizational goals. Plans are recommended annually and reviewed/revised as needed.
- Sets priorities assigns responsibilities and establishes appropriate timetables.
- Annually monitors and evaluates the accomplishment of departmental goals.
- Project future needs for service space equipment material revenue and personnel. Make recommendations as needed for changes in these areas.
- Promptly submits required reports to the appropriate individual committee or department. Reports are prepared and informational. Data is accurate.
- Promotes and evaluates the achievement of department objectives in collaboration with organizational leadership.

- With the Operations Manager & Medical Director(s):
- Develop evaluate and recommend revision of standards of practice as needed.
- Ensures that the standards of practice are implemented and assists in the monitoring of standards as necessary.
- Continually evaluates standards of clinical practice policies and procedures by reviewing patient care records interviewing and observing staff and patients. Policy and procedures reviewed and revised per regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Fiscal Management:
- Maintains optimal costeffective delivery of services.
- Actively participates in the planning and development of a realistic annual departmental budget based on projected needs of patients served.
- Recommends budget information to administration for capital expenditures operating expenses and revenue.
- Participates in the development of a business plan for any new services.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility as evidenced by monthly productivity and responsibility reports for the department that are inline with projected outcomes.
- Consistently seeks to identify areas for improving cost containment and cost reduction.
- Personnel Management:
- Provides/plans/maintains staffing patterns based on patient and operational needs.
- Assesses the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care and adjusts staffing assignments appropriately.
- Schedule staff based upon patient needs and staff qualifications to provide safe effective patient care.
- Assignment of duties is appropriate based on competency and skill of employees.
- Recruits interviews selects and assists in evaluation of staff in collaboration with Medical Director(s) and the Operations Manager as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains current job descriptions and standards of performance of employees reporting to this position.
- Recruiting and hiring practices are in accordance with Augusta Health hiring standards.
- Evaluates assigned staff with evaluations completed within one month of evaluation due date.
- In collaboration with organizational leadership develops and monitors a comprehensive and effective quality improvement program.
- Establishes departmental standards of quality productivity and performance. Standards are established and reviewed at least annually.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and appropriate licensing/accrediting agencies in areas of service and personnel. Plans and implements action needed to comply with all regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Participates on assigned hospital quality improvement teams and disseminates information to staff appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Plan ways to solve identified problems within the department and to make improvements in the delivery of patient care.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of problem solving techniques and activities implemented to improve services.
- Directs supervises and participates in implementing planned changes and activities to improve service in collaboration with organizational leadership.
- Ensures the assessment of activities of the department reviewing audit and quality data information as appropriate.
