Intentional partnerships with the industries we serve coupled with high graduation and job placement rates recently attracted the largest philanthropic gift in the history of the college from the Cummings Foundation.


Last year Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1000 learners across three student types: 1 certificate and degree seekers 2 continuing education clients and 3 high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance this year the college tracked a 25 yearoveryear jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

Position Summary:

The Instructor in Automotive Technology at Franklin Cummings Tech involves teaching in person on a fulltime basis using Canvas Learning Management System and other appropriate means in the Department of Automotive Technology.


Courses include:

Electricity and Electronics (both lecture and lab) covering the fundamentals of electricity and magnetism including current voltage resistance Ohms law series and parallel circuits electric power electromagnetic circuits wiring diagrams electrical measurement and electronic devices and circuits.


Automotive Engines (both lecture and lab) covering all aspects of automotive internal combustion engines including design nomenclature operational theory mechanisms bearings lubrication and engine overhaul procedure for the servicing of engines.

Automotive Safety and Technology (lecture and lab) covering present and future automotive safety/technology equipment/tool identification and safety procedures when repairing vehicles batteries high voltage batteries hybrid vehicles and fuel cells. Lab focuses on safety service and maintenance of vehicles including ICE electric and biofuel vehicles.

Through teaching participation in institutional initiatives and pursuing professional development the faculty member contributes to the mission outcomes and strategic plan of the department and the College. Requirements

Key Responsibilities of fulltime Faculty:

  • Teach a minimum of 15 contact hours with available overtime hours.
  • Availability to meet with students when needed.
  • Use of course texts outlines and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department policies. Any deviations from the course syllabus must be approved by the department chair.
  • Respond to chair and administrative requests in a timely manner and complete all responsibilities effectively; prompt in keeping appointments attending meetings (when possible) starting classes on time.
  • Respond to students in a timely manner
  • Evaluate student achievement and provide timely feedback while maintaining accurate student records in the CANVAS LMS. Provide adequate support to students and maintain a respectful professional rapport.
  • Participation in communications with the college and department. This includes utilizing the college Dropout Detective warning system to alert advisors when students falter.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching including preparation meeting course goals organization and presentation of material student involvement and classroom management
  • Collaborate with other college departments (academic student affairs enrollment development) for the mutual benefit of all.

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years work experience in Automotive Diagnosis and Repair for ICE and alternative fuel vehicles
  • One or more years instructional experience
  • The ability to communicate effectively and connect with adult learners.
  • Strong analytical organizational and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Automotive Service Certification


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree or higher from a recognized college or university with related major;
  • Two or more years teaching experience at the college or senior secondary levels
