Receives and accurately processes surgical autopsy or diagnostic tissue specimens from various hospital departments and physician offices. Responsibilities include collection cutting staining and processing of tissue specimens with preparation of tissue blocks and slides having accurate patient identification for evaluation by the pathologists to render a reliable diagnosis. Also assists the pathologists in frozen section biopsies. Maintains the Histology work and storage inventory and areas in a clean and orderly environment.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines to be accurate and to handle constantly changing situations. Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people deal with stressful situations and handle conflict.
Will perform all job duties or job tasks as assigned. Will follow and adhere to all requirements regulations and procedures of any licensing board or agency. Must comply with all Benefis Health Systems organization policies and procedures.
Education/License/Experience Requirements:- Bachelors degree in health science chemistry biology or histology.
- Histotechnologist training at a certified training program/healthcare careers college preferred.
- Oneyear related experience or equivalent training
- Current Histotechnologist HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible for the certification examination. Must complete certification within 36 months of hire date if not certified.
