As a Purchasing Agent you will provide support to our regional and market distribution centers and our Blended branches by purchasing products to ensure inventory service level goals are met. If you have excellent customer service skills strong critical thinking skills and experience juggling multiple requests while still meeting urgent deadlines this is a great opportunity to grow with an industry leader.

This position is a Hybrid role based out of our Newport News VA location in accordance with the Ferguson Flex schedule; 3 days office / 2 days remote. Remote work accommodations may be available for the ideal candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Place purchase orders for a large territory from centralized regional office
  • Compile and maintain information and records to prepare purchase orders
  • Contact vendors and suppliers for quotations and maintain key relationships
  • Aid in resolving payable discrepancies
  • Work within team setting managing high volume of email requests via Outlook
  • Identify lowcost freightsaving options
  • Manage file maintenance for products bought from the vendor including pricing
  • Manage system settings governing buy quantities and inventory levels to achieve company goals for customer service inventory and service levels
  • Work closely with individual locations to ensure purchasing related questions/issues are addressed
  • Expedite purchase orders to meet customer needs
  • Provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety standards and policies ensuring the safety of the associate and others
  • Display high levels of customer service collaborating with internal customers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred
  • Prior knowledge of the Industrial Business Group and its primary customers such as oil and gas pulp and paper and chemical industries
  • Prior purchasing or buying experience especially supporting a region or multiple stores a huge plus
  • Strong computer proficiency including use of Microsoft applications and navigating multiple software systems required
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel such as use of vlookups concatenate and pivot tables a plus
  • Experience with Oracle SAP Logility or similar purchasing software a plus
  • Intermediate proficiency in data collection tools such as SQL or Access
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools ex. Power BI
  • Understanding of how to identify trends from unrefined data
  • Strong interpersonal & customer service skills and a teamcentric mentality
  • Ability to be flexible adaptable and multitasking skills needed including the ability to juggle multiple urgent requests
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate across all levels of the organization

Requirements for Hybrid Workers:

  • This may require schedule flexibility for onboarding and training as well as team meetings. Hybrid candidates are expected to be in office 3 days per week.
  • Hybrid candidates must have high speed internet connection.
  • Future inoffice requirements are TBD and are subject to change.

Pay Range:

$3075.30 $6783.70

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.

Ferguson complies with all wage regulations. The starting wage may be higher in certain locations based on local or state wage requirements.
