An exciting opportunity exists for recent graduates or those in early stages of a career in museum collections archives library and information services. The Patricia Begg Internship is offered two days per week for a 6month period to work with the Collections team at Arts Centre Melbourne.
Arts Centre Melbourne is the proud custodian of theAustralian Performing Arts Collection (APAC) which is dedicated to the collection preservation and interpretation of Australias circus dance music opera and theatre heritage.
Collecting began in the late 1970s and two early major acquisitions were the J. C. Williamson Theatre Archive and the Dame Nellie Melba Collection. Today the collection holds over 800000 objects including major acquisitions fromKylie MinogueNick CaveBarry HumphriesBell ShakespeareandThe Australian Ballet.
Primarily under the supervision of the Research Coordinator the successful applicant will be work across a range of specialist collection areas including the Research Service Curatorial and Collections Management. Tasks will include booking and supervising research appointments library stocktake assisting in preparation of new acquisitions assisting in deinstallation or installation of objects in displays collections sorting database records improvement and editing.
The internship is designed to give practical experience across a number of professional areas who work with specialist collections. It is aimed at gradates of Museum Studies Curatorial Studies Library and Information Services Archival Science or similar.
This internship is offered through the generosity of Mr Christopher Begg.
Parttime fixedterm position 0.4 FTE). Band 1.2 $51776.00 p.a. pro rata plus superannuation.
