With direction and oversight from senior members of the Digital Forensic Lab the incumbent will begin developing competence in digital forensics. The training program includes classroom work extensive required reading research and presentations and the completion of a mock trial program. Based on individual progress the Forensic Scientist 1 may be assigned under close supervision routine casework assignments.
OUR ORGANIZATION MISSION AND CULTURE:As a component of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation the Digital Forensics Labs mission is to provide Alaskas investigators with he high quality digital forensic examinations and cutting edge technical resources necessary to support the relentless pursuit of justice in the Last Frontier.

This position is part of a team working in a fastpaced taskforce environment. This position is situated inside a secure local law enforcement building in Anchorage. Most work is performed in a lab or office environment with an occasional need to respond to crime scenes as a digital evidence collection specialist.
Substitution:
Four years of experience installing configuring coding maintaining and/or repairing computer hardware and/or software may substitute for the bachelors degree. Please note: this substitution is not applicable for positions within the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory.
Special Note:
Recruitment and selection may be based on the areas of needed expertise in the agency.
Employees will be expected to successfully pass annual proficiency/competency tests.
Appointments to positions in a Stateoperated scientific crime detection laboratory and/or digital forensic laboratory are subject to background requirements per the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) and the Department of Public Safety. A criminal background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
One year of experience as a Forensic Scientist 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
AND EITHER
A bachelors degree from an accredited college which included 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of science courses in the areas of chemistry biology physics computer analysis forensic sciences or criminalistics.
OR
At least 300 hours of documented digital forensics training courses and a capstone certification in a digital forensics discipline. Please note: This option is not applicable for positions within the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory.Two years of experience as a Forensic Scientist 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
AND EITHER
A bachelors degree from an accredited college which included 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of science courses in the areas of chemistry biology physics computer analysis forensic sciences or criminalistics.
OR
At least 500 hours of documented digital forensics training courses and a capstone certification in a digital forensics discipline. Please note: This option is not applicable for positions within the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory.COVER LETTER
