Summary Sets up and operates conventional special purpose and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
Tool Room Machinist I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.
Tool Room Machinist II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

Education and/or Experience
Associates degree (A. A. or equivalent from twoyear college or technical school with an emphasis in machine shop or tool and die; or a minimum of one year related experience and/or hands on training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra geometry and trigonometry as they relate to machining variables.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
Other Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with conventional and CNC lathes mills and grinders. The following are operations routinely performed by tool room personnel: turning (CNC and conventional); milling (CNC and conventional); drilling; grinding; lapping; deburring; precision measuring; threading; tapping; fixturing; CNC machine setup and cutting tool grinding/sharpening. Acquiring a general knowledge of the supported processes will be essential.

While performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

While performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
