Speech Language Pathologist

New Aiyansh Nisgaa School District No. 92

The Nisgaa School District No. 92 is seeking a fulltime Speech Language Pathologist to work with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 with a variety of complex needs.

Located in the majestic Nass Valley in Northwestern British Columbia the Nisgaa School District encompasses the traditional treaty territory of the Nisgaa Nation. Role Overview

The successful candidate will work well within the team of Learning Support Teachers school staff school Principals and the District Vice Principal for Inclusive Education. The candidate will also collaborate with the Provincial Schools Outreach team. This assignment will include diagnosing and treating speech language and communication disorders as well as providing training and education to teachers support staff and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrated teaching ability.
  • Comprehensive understanding of curriculum coupled with demonstrated ability to interpret curriculum appropriately to accommodate individual differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a variety of assessment practices to measure and monitor student progress effectively.
  • Strategies to identify speech language difficulties early understand obstacles to learning and implement effective intervention to maximize academic success.
  • Knowledge and understanding of traumainformed pedagogy and practice with a focus on improving social communication; crisis intervention; and advocacy for students.
  • Maintain open communication with students parents teachers and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Develop and implement programs and interventions to address specific student needs.
  • Conduct workshops and presentations on topics such as speech/language development supporting students with communication challenges and implementing evidencebased practices in the classroom.
  • Actively participate in all four schools School Based Teams
Qualifications
  • Experience working within a school context
  • Masters in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Knowledge of the K12
  • Successful completion of the SAC Clinical Certification Program.
  • Registered membership with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC (CSHHPBC).
  • Knowledge and successful experience in working with children designated in a low incidence category.
  • Successful experience in working with special needs students and their families.
  • Successful experience in assisting with the development of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Ability to provide a wide variety of speech/language services to students with many different needs.

  • Expertise in implementing BC Curriculum and researchbased strategies with a focus on SLP integration to enhance student learning
  • Commitment to student engagement and continuous improvement through datadriven accountability systems
  • Experience in administering assessments to inform instructional practices and set district achievement goals
  • Deep respect for diversity with a commitment to reconciliation and integrating Indigenous perspectives particularly Nisgaa culture and history
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills capable of positively influencing behavior and fostering collaborative environments
  • Superior work ethic and social emotional competencies excellent reflective judgment and commitment to building effective learning communities
  • Confidence and proficiency in using instructional organizers concepts and strategies that actively engage all students in learning.
