Job Description

The Disability Services Manager will provide a broad range of assistance for students seeking disabilityrelated accommodation at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. This position demands a high level of competence sensitivity and integrity in all areas related to students with disabilities. Effective communication and administrative skills along with the ability to work in an active office environment with a diverse population of students faculty and staff are essential.

This position is responsible for overseeing fulltime staff providing leadership and guidance to ensure team success. The role also includes managing the intake process ensuring efficient and effective operations. Because the Disability Services Department requires a studentfacing presence at all times and because of the nature of the essential job duties and responsibilities of the Disability Services Manager position the Disability Services Managers ability to work on campus at least 50 percent of the time and up to 100 percent of the time during peak business periods is essential.

The Disability Services team is dedicated to ensuring equitable access while creating an inclusive campus community with a universally designed learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Management and Supervision

  • Provides oversight and management for the Disability Services office. Supervise and give work directions to Disability Services Specialist students and temporary or casual employees.
  • Services as the subject matter expert on disability services for the department.
  • Assist with identifying and addressing barriers to campus accessibility.
  • Participates in or leads team meetings.
  • Meets and provides available resources for students who request accommodations that are not available through the Schools Disability Services.
  • Collaborates with Academic Technology and Instructional Design teams regarding accessibility of course materials and learning management system (Canvas).
  • Actively problemsolve issues with auxiliary services processes and report any process issues or concerns to Disability Services team.
  • Manage approved disability services budget and oversees purchases within the approved operational budget.

Intake and Case Management

  • Manage student caseload. This duty includes conducting initial meetings reviewing documentation creating case notes intentional follow up with students and/or faculty members and referring students to on campus and/or external community resources.
  • Interprets and explains School policies and procedures to students adjuncts and faculty who are requesting information and/or using services; adheres to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
  • Requests and analyzes medical reports and disability verifications from state licensed care providers; explains disability verification requirements to providers; and maintains confidential student files.
  • Supports students individualized modifications and accommodations needed for academic success.
  • Provides support for students through meetings to discuss goals progress and any unresolved issues/concerns.

Records

  • Reviews updates and maintains student records (e.g. SIS/Jenzabar AIM).

Management of Auxiliary Services

Testing Accommodation Process

  • The Disability Services Manager manages student testing accommodations. Strong written and verbal communication with students faculty and Disability Services team members is essential. Due to the dynamic nature of the testing process the Disability Services Manager must be able to work independently manage multiple deadlines and consistently exercise critical problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.

Alternative Format Materials

  • This position determines and manages departmental processes related to alternative format materials. Responsibilities include supporting the student request process for alternative format textbooks and ensuring timely delivery of materials. The Disability Services Manager will also evaluate course materials for accessibility as needed.

Assistive Technology

  • Works with external vendors and the implementation of various assistive technology tools including but not limited to Read & Write (literacy tool) and Glean (audionotetaking). This position may also assist in providing informational training to students regarding approved accommodations and assigned assistive technology tools.

Captioning and American Sign Language (ASL)

  • The Disability Services Manager works directly with faculty and with Disability Services external vendor to manage realtime and postproduction student captioning requirements. This position may also assist with captioning needs for largescale events such as orientation and commencement. Additionally the Disability Services Manager may support the Dean of Students in organizing and scheduling ASL interpreters.

Management of additional auxiliary services as needed.

  • This may include organizing the logistics of ergonomic furniture for oncampus needs. As well as other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in education special education social work counseling communications psychology vocational rehabilitation or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience working in higher education or disability related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience in disability services or related field.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Accessible Information Management (AIM) software or other related. student information management software in the field of Disability Services.

Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this position is $65500 $75000 annually.
