CBC Calgary is looking for an experienced dynamic and creative digital journalist who can make a positive contribution to our newsroom and to our work.
An exceptional journalist and a selfstarter you must be able to understand a broad range of issues and thrive in the fastpaced highpressure world of a multiplatform newsroom. You know how to write edit and package digital stories. You have experience in video storytelling and keep an eye on the changing landscape for digital video.
Youre innovative and will try new workflows and new story treatments. You understand the diverse and changing population in southern Alberta and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You appreciate the range of perspectives that people hold and believe in the importance of giving voice to those perspectives.
In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.
Your responsibilities:
Pitch research write and produce original story ideas for primarily a digital audience on as well as radio/current affairs when required.
Repurpose content from other CBC platforms including writing packaging stories with strong headlines photos video audio and graphics using the latest information.
Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.
Distil large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.
Create video treatments of original stories as assigned
Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts to deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.

Your profile:
Demonstrated experience working in a news and breaking news environment.
Strong understanding of online news including social media video graphics and photo selection.
Ability to generate pitch and pursue creative story ideas.
A desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Ability to forge positive team relationships and keen to work on a team that values collaboration and transparency.
Experience filing requests to find information using local provincial and federal access to information and privacy (ATIP) legislation is a bonus.
Sound news judgment attention to detail and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A passion for learning new tools and journalism forms plus an interest in innovating.
Must possess a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanadas insurance company other classes considered an asset.
University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.
Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
