Description
Through the Division of Infectious Diseases at Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH) the Center for Integrated Solutions to Infectious Diseases (CISID) is seeking a Research Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join a multidisciplinary team. Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigators the Research NP will be responsible for coordination management and implementation of a portfolio of clinical research projects focused on investigating the complex interactions between pathogens and the human host yielding a deeper understanding of human infectious disease and improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with infection.
Using the nursing process and the research protocol a Research NP provides education and resources to facilitate appropriate and timely quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the protocol. The Research NP creates an environment of care that is patientcentered and compassionate inspiring and motivating. The Research NP serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team to provide routine and specialized research procedures and services to CISIDaffiliated research investigators.
The Research NP will be involved in managing the clinical research team and liaising with other coinvestigators at MGB sites and the Broad Institute. They will be primary point of contact for external collaborators lead the regulatory oversight of these research studies.
The Research NP roles standard working hours will be 32 hours per week.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision and direction of the responsible physician provides research procedures to study participants in various hospital outpatient clinics and inpatient settings as assigned and across a continuum of age and acuity.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care counseling and teaching to a select patient population served in the study protocol.
Provides education to study participants and healthcare personnel in regard to medical treatment & followup study procedures and risks
Exercises autonomy in decisionmaking by using sophisticated clinical knowledge to demonstrate a high level of accountability to research investigators other staff and research participants.
Performs complete and accurate health histories and physicals whenever necessary.
Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests to assess patients health care needs. Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to research protocols.
Manages care and treatment of study participants as indicated in the professional scope of practice and within current standards of medical practice protocols.
Maintains accurate documentation of patient history physical exams treatment and progress in medical records.
Collects documents and analyzes study participant data as necessary.
Establishes and monitors care standards evaluates outcomes makes recommendations for changes and works to implement changes under the direction of the supervisor.
Maintains a current knowledge of Federal (HIPAA GCP FDA etc. State and Hospital laws regulations and guidelines governing human subject research.
Supervises and trains a growing research team including research assistants research fellows and data managers.
Manages clinical research protocols including assisting drafting of protocols to achieve project aims and suggesting changes to protocols as needed.
Assists with scientific writing and grant applications
Provides regulatory oversight of clinical protocols including developing and reviewing human subject protocol regulatory submissions and interfacing with the institutional review board (IRB).
Drafts and revises instruments surveys and other data collection instruments in accordance with project aims.
Supervises daytoday project implementation including participant recruitment data collection data entry data quality assurance.
All other duties as assigned.
Education/Licensure:
Completion of Masters (MSN) DNP or PhD Degree in Nursing required.
Completion of a Masters or post Masters degree in adult or family NP program accredited by the Commission Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) required.
Current Family Nurse Practitioner Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
Valid prescriptive authority from both MA DPH and Federal DEA required.
Current APRN license to practice in Massachusetts required.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years clinical research experience required.
Minimum 3 years current clinical nursing or nurse practitioner experience in an ambulatory setting required.
Clinical nursing experience caring for a solid organ transplant patient population strongly preferred.
Critical care nursing experience strongly preferred.
Other Skills / Competencies:
Interpersonal skills needed for interacting effectively with physicians staff and patients.
Is a strong team player and supports other providers and offers help to the group.
Proficiency in BWH computer systems needed to independently perform daily tasks such as order entry Epic lab tests and results incident reporting etc.
Demonstrated competence treating patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting.
Strong organizational skills and flexibility in managing a variety of tasks adapting plans based on shifting goals.
Ability to collaborate with investigators and other members of cross functional teams to complete project deliverables.
Initiative and the ability to work and make decisions both independently and in a team setting.
Ability to identify issues quickly and generate plans to address problems.
Selfmotivation to be as effective as possible in their role and the leadership to engender these skills among research staff.
