Under supervision of a nurse leader guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff the LVN Supervisor works independently and has primary responsibility for the supervision of the LVN/MA staff. Responsible for supervising the operational human resource and clinical competency skills of the medical assistants who work in the practice including staff schedules. Coordinates and assigns lunches and breaks for all LVN/MA staff and reassigns tasks when other LVNs/MAa are absent. The LVN Supervisor oversees the clinic flow ensuring an efficient wellrun operation paying attention to room utilization wait times and provider productivity. This supervisor possesses unique knowledge/expertise in a highly specialized environment that no one else on the team has. Acts as the content expert and responsible for quality improvement for the identified area of expertise. Responsible for the management of specialty programs training and competency of the team members. Assist with coordination of standards and or new initiatives/programs across the cancer center.

As a working supervisor also assists in the delivery of care to patients in the Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. Work includes a performing and assisting with a variety of clinical procedures reconciling patients medications and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary or specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. Required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center practices. Required to adhere to the Living Pride Standards and Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $92400 $138700 (Annual Rate).

Related experience includes working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and/or equivalent combination of applicable experience providing direct care and leadership in a patient care support discipline

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Clinical knowledge to effectively supervise LVNs. Skills to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic center or practice
  • Working knowledge of human resources management policies with the ability to train monitor evaluate and document human resources issues and performance and to participate in decisionmaking on human resources matters
  • Detail oriented with the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly analyze problems determine appropriate level of intervention and apply effective solutions
  • Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of management and staff
  • Skills in written and verbal communications with the ability to convey clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner


    • Graduation from an approved LVN program
    • Strong knowledge of LVN patient care standards and care delivery systems external regulations and internal policies
    • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments
    • Related supervisory experience


    • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
    • Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
