Position Available: Cook Contract Part Time 5 hours per day/25 Hours per week

Location: Bayview Hill CC/SA/EDP

Start Date: May 16 2025

End Date: May 15 2026

About Family Day:

Family Day Care Services is a nonprofit charitable organization with a long and distinguished history of providing highquality early learning and child care services to children and families throughout Toronto York and Peel Regions. We are a multi service organization with over 500 employees providing a broad range of services including: 29 Child Care Centres 49 Before and After Care programs 204 Licensed Home Child Cares 9 EarlyON programs 2 Homework Plus programs and Special Needs Resourcing for children and their families living in the Greater Toronto Area.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Centre Supervisor the Cook is responsible for planning and preparing meals that are healthy and nutritious to be served in the child care centre and associated satellite programs. All food preparation is in accordance with Public Health standards Canada Food Guide Early Years Act (CCEYA) municipal and regional bylaws and Family Days Policies and procedures. The Cook is also responsible for lunch clean up and coordination of the child care centre laundry.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and prepare nutritional meals in accordance with theChild Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) in consultation with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Prepare suitable menu substitutions for children with allergies and individual dietary requirements
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available to meet daily menu plan requirements
  • Purchase weekly groceries according to the menu plan in a cost effective manner
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for children enrolled both at child care centre and associated satellite programs
  • Regularly order food cleaning supplies and paper products each month in consultation with the centre supervisor to ensure the centre is stocked as required
  • Operate and maintain kitchen according to Public Health inspection requirements
  • Ability to incorporate light housekeeping duties in daily routines

Education and Experience Required

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation
  • Prior experience preparing meals in a business or institutional setting will be an asset
  • Understanding and working knowledge of current Public Health Guidelines and Canadian Food Guide
  • Experience in cooking for large groups
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Ability to work productivity in a team environment
  • Social and multicultural sensitivity
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a vehicle.
  • Medical required including TB (two stages) 6 months current to hiring date
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check 6 months current to hiring date
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C
  • Able to work Monday to Friday
