Job Description

Middle/Upper School SEED Teacher

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Middle and Upper School Teacher Social Emotional and Ethical Development (SEED) This will be a fulltimeexempt position beginning August 15 2025. The ideal candidate will assume the responsibilities and possess the qualifications as indicated below.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Teach Middle and Upper School SEL (Social Emotional & Ethical Development SEED) classes
  • Serve as an advisor in either Middle or Upper School
  • Specific gradelevel classes to be determined by the Heads of Upper and Middle School in collaboration with the Director of Student Support/WellBeing US SEED department chair and PK8 Curriculum Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with class deans to integrate topics from SEED into gradelevel advisory and subject areas as appropriate.
  • Work with Division Heads to preview SEED content and provide workshops and informational sessions to parents and colleagues.
  • Work with the SEED team to continue to build a scope and sequence for the curriculum that reflects the Flourishing Framework DEI strategic plan and ongoing developmental needs of students.
  • Engage in professional development that will allow the individual and the SEED department to grow and thrive.
  • Be an active participant in the schools cocurricular program in meaningful ways by coaching running a club chaperoning overnight trips etc.
  • Other responsibilities include attending regular faculty meetings professional learning communities inservice days and other supervision duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will...

    • Have training and experience in teaching and counseling social work psychology or related field.
    • Have an interest in ongoing professional development and learning around Human Flourishing WellBeing and teaching typical health topics such as sexuality education drug/alcohol prevention and mental health/mental disorders;
    • Have a passion for cultural competency and a commitment to bringing topics and practices related to social justice diversity equity inclusion and belonging to the classroom.

The ideal candidate will...

    • Have experience teaching a social/emotional curriculum to adolescents;
    • Have an interest in and a desire to build and evaluate curriculum;
    • Have training in Human Flourishing Positive Education/Positive Psychology;
    • Have training or experience in sexuality education.
