Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

QUALIFICATIONS:Kentucky Certification for School Psychologist

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

JOB GOALS: To provide services which promote a positive climate for learning and mental
health for all learners from the preschool years through adulthood.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assessment Interpretation & Reporting

  • Assessment including data collection interpretation and reporting of information needed to ensure that the educational needs of students are being appropriately met.
    • Conducts and facilitates Risk Assessments.

Consultation and Training

  • Consultation with parents teachers administrators and other professionals to develop and implement educational programming in order to facilitate the functioning growth and learning of individuals.
  • Planning and development of databased interventions individual and classroom to facilitate the adjustment and/or learning of students.
    • Participates as an active member in ARC meetings as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison between schools and consult with community mental health professionals/agencies.
  • Develops and delivers staff education and training programs in order to enhance the knowledge growth and functioning of students parents and staff.

Direct Intervention

  • Direct intervention with students which may include counseling behavior management problemsolving specific skill development and other approaches.
  • Responds to crisis situations and provides intervention as necessary in tandem with colleagues and community personnel.

Research and Program Development

  • Program development and evaluation to ensure the efficacy of academic preventative and mental health programs provided by the school district.
  • Conducts research including data collection analysis and reporting of information related directly to the functioning of programs within the school; or the procurement interpretation and reporting of literature in the areas related to psychology and education.

Professional Practice and Development

  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Reports any pertinent information to the proper authorities in cases of child endangerment neglect or abuse.
  • Maintains accurate records of services provided.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth through participating in professional organizations and attending workshops/professional developments to remain informed and uptodate.
  • Interprets and upholds School Board policy and Special Education law through the referral evaluation and placement process.
  • Communicates effectively with students parents and school staff.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.


EVALUATION: Annually by the Director of Special Education
