Brief Description of Duties
Reporting to the Director of Development the Grants Officer fosters meaningful engagement with companies and private foundations and to advance the Universitys education research and service mission through collaboration and working with the University faculty and staff. The position works collaboratively with the Director of Development internal University stakeholders and Foundation team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting research vetting qualifying ranking planning and developing submitting proposals to ensure that all funding opportunities align with the Universitys strategic plan and mission. Writes highly competitive proposals in partnership with university schools/units representatives. The position is responsible for delivering timely submissions of wellresearched planned and written grant proposals that persuasively communicate UDC needs and results in position strong builds coalitions and collaborative networks (e.g. with energetic ambitious goaloriented and creative faculty members UDC staff and funding partners). Works independently with stakeholders that produces relationships across constituencies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops annual comprehensive strategic plans for corporate and foundation relationships and works closely with the Director of Development Vice President for Advancement and internal officers will.
  • Creates an active pipeline of 50 corporate and foundation prospects through identification qualification and cultivation efforts.
  • In collaboration with Advancement team members and other campus partners conduct stewardship visits onsite and offsite.
  • Develops letters of inquiry presentation decks proposals and Memoranda of Understanding documents with special attention to managing the overall quality accuracy and timeliness of all written correspondence and responses.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with the deans key faculty and staff within the Office Sponsored Programs Office of External Relations and Office of Career Services to foster their involvement in the preaward coordination activities for the proposal creation and prospect identification process.
  • The Grants Officer will partner with the Advancement staff to ensure they have pertinent information is available to submit to donors in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the departments CRM system and prospect research platforms daily to manage and track all donor and prospect engagement and communications.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree with 3 years of experience in professional fundraising or writing intensive roles.
  • Authentic passion for UDCs mission and desire to foster practices incorporating diversity equity inclusion and belonging.
  • Demonstrated success in writing proposals for corporate sponsorship opportunities and/or grant writing.
  • Anticipates resolves and mitigates complex technical administrative and other problems to reduce and eliminate risks associated with developing proposal submissions.
  • Works independently and with program staff and UDC Foundation to assemble proposal information such as project scope goals logic models theories of change implementation plan methods timelines staffing budget standards of performance and evaluation.
  • Experience developing proposal concepts strategies identifying and clarifying University opportunities and need vetting requests for proposals coordinating strategy meetings and producing letter of inquiry and grant templates.
  • Develops coordinates and conducts UDCwide training sessions on proposal development proficiencies.
  • Maintains a sound knowledge of UDCs mission colleges and schools programs target population and strategic vision and uses this information to better prepare proposals andwritten communication.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as the Advancement calendar requires.

Residency Preference:A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position may be awarded a 10point residency preference over nonDistrict applicants unless the person declines the preference points. If selected the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

DrugFree Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the DrugFree Workplace Act of 1988 the individual selected to fill this position will as a condition of employment be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor in writing not later than five 5 days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
