THE POSITION:
Under close supervision incumbents learn and develop skills to perform manual friction ridge comparisons and latent print examinations for criminal identification which includes evaluating comparing and preserving prints; and entering prints into automated identification systems. This is a nonsworn classification located in the Sheriffs Office.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill fulltime and parttime regular limitedterm or extrahelp positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Collects compares and identifies latent friction ridge detail evidence found at crime scenes.
Prepares hardcopy and digital latent prints for input into a variety of databases to include theAutomated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
Evaluates the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) results forms conclusions and provides evidence to support findings.
Prepares and maintains field and laboratory notes and technical/analytical reports.
Prepares and maintains confidential case reports records and correspondence.
Communicates with federal state and local law enforcement agencies.
Responds to phone calls and inperson inquiries from attorneys the public and other law enforcement agencies.
Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory and work environment.
Assists Evidence Technicians as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Either:One year of experience in a law enforcement agency performing criminal identification duties OR
DOCUMENT SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS:
College transcripts may be required for this position.If qualifying under the education requirement candidates must submit a copy of their official/unofficial college transcripts (which verify the student institution courses and units completed) by the final filing date. Candidates who fail to submit their transcripts by the final filing date may be disqualified from the recruitment.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or nonU.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service. Based on the information provided in the application documents the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be prescheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to selfschedule. VETERANS PREFERENCE POINTS:
To be eligible applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214 SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4 MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE (or APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE).
