TITLE: Fleet Mechanic
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform preventative maintenance repairs and safety inspections on District vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.
- Five 5 years of experience in the diagnosis repair and maintenance of automobiles or heavy duty diesels.
- State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ability to obtain an Arizona Commercial Drivers license ASE certification and Brake Inspection certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair and maintain various components of District vehicles school buses and other diesel equipment to include fluid changes brakes air conditioning electrical systems cooling systems wheelchair lifts and power transmission; complete chassis repairs; perform computer diagnostics and tire services.
- Remove and install video surveillance systems in buses.
- Maintain records related to repair work work order requests safety inspection checklists driver writeups estimates and proposed or completed projects.
- Operate service repair vehicles to provide repair services at site of vehicle breakdowns.
- Schedule safety inspections and repairs; interact with drivers on troubleshooting.
- Operate shop machines to rebuild or fabricate machine parts.
- Road test vehicle to locate operational defects prior to returning to active use; assess overall vehicle condition.
- Occasionally order and receive parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of automotive or heavy duty diesel equipment diagnosis and repair methods practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable safety practices.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of automotive heavy duty diesel and mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair work.
- Skill in operating shop tools and machines.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Ability to diagnose defects in automotive and heavy duty diesel equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery.
Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Restricted movement dirty environment air contamination intense noise.
Roadside calls on streets highways and freeways.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Lift move and carry up to 50 pounds of materials.
Bend stoop and reach repeatedly.
Operate a District vehicle.
