Job Description

Bus Driver

Training Rate:$20.47 per Hour

Contracted Rate:$25.71 per Hour

Sub Driver Rate:$21.49 per Hour

JOB DESCRIPTION

Findpurpose flexible hours and a strong sense of community as a school bus driver!As a school bus driver you play a crucial role in ensuring students have a safe reliable ride to and from school. Successful driver applicants will be trained to perform all driver duties to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).We provide paid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training and guide you through the school bus driver CDL certification process.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Minimum age of 21 with at least 5 years driving experience.
  2. Successful completion of training or certification programs related to position. This could include but is not limited to one of the following: High School Diploma GED AA BA etc. if applicable.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. Successful completion of Bus Driver training program.
  6. Must possess or be willing to obtaina CDL Class B passenger endorsement school bus endorsement and air brake restriction removed.
  7. Must pass a basic skills test.
  8. Must be First Aid certified or be willing to obtain First Aid certification with thirty 30 days of employment.
  9. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  10. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

  1. Minimum of two 2 supervisory references indicating satisfactory skills and abilities.
  2. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  3. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Must maintain the physical and licensing requirements of a CDL bus driver as required.
  5. Must be able to pass a yearly bus evacuation drill and maintain the physical requirements of removing children safely from the bus. Must possess sufficient strength and ability to assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
  6. Must attend yearly inservice trainings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  7. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  8. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.
  9. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
  10. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their jobrelated activities.
  11. Must be able to use basic computer programs to develop route sheets enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Previous experience working with young people preferred.
  2. Evidence of ability to manage large groups of young people.
  3. Evidence of excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be selfdisciplined and a selfstarter.
  4. Positive job evaluations and recommendations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The bus driver will:

  1. Efficiently operate a school bus on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of district approved activities both within and outside the school district boundaries.
  2. Maintain and update route sheets in a timely manner.
  3. Operate school buses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog rain hail sleet snow and ice.
  4. Communicate route changes and requirements to dispatch and management in a timely manner.
  5. Service inspect and clean school buses and related equipment as required by State and district policy.
  6. Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety; report unsafe acts or conditions which required the attention of any person other than the driver.
  7. Complete forms records and reports as required by the State or local school district policies.
  8. Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the school district.
  9. Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies declared by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
  10. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality
  11. Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by local school district policies.
  12. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness civility and human sensitivity.

JOB RELATED TASKS

The bus driver will:

  1. Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers highway warning kits snow chains first aid kits etc.
  2. Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and all related equipment.
  3. Clean and service the school bus to include interior/exterior sweeping and washing maintaining appropriate of fuel oil and coolant tire inflation levels etc.
  4. Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State (minimum) school bus specification.
  5. Perform basic first aid as appropriate which may include CPR.
  6. Complete clerical tasks as assigned both in writing and on computer; legible and accurate completion of forms records time sheets trip requests route studies trouble reports misconduct reports accident reports and other clerical activities as may be required.
  7. Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned by supervisor.
