Job Description

Job Goal:

To coordinate and monitor an effective K12 mathematics and science curriculum and program of instruction.

To assist the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment to coordinate and monitor an effective curriculum and program of instruction in all schools by providing the support necessary to develop competencies within leaders and teachers throughout the district to create cultures of collaboration focusing on results to ensure that all students learn.

Qualifications (minimum education licensure skills and/or experience):

  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with preferred certification in secondary math or secondary science.
  • Masters Degree 12 hours of professional education 9 hours of which shall include supervision curriculum instruction and administration.
  • Certification as a Parish or City School Supervisor of Instruction or an Educational Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment to review periodically the parish philosophy goals and objectives and make recommendations to keep them updated and relevant.
  • Assist Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment to coordinate and monitor an effective curriculum and program of instruction in all schools.
  • Provide leadership to school personnel to effect horizontal and vertical continuity throughout the parish.
  • Collaborate with directors/supervisors and school administrators to assure continuity across all grade levels.
  • Work cooperatively and collectively with supervisors principals department chairpersons and teachers to ensure that instructional programs and services are coordinated in the schools and are administered uniformly and equitably.
  • Provide educational leadership in curriculum development and refinement the implementation of content standards and effective assessment and evaluation.
  • Provide educational leadership in the implementation of instructional programs including the evaluation of classroom instruction on a regular basis to encourage differentiated instruction and the use of variety strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Foster the integration of students into mainstream society while valuing diversity.
  • Identify at the school level instructional approaches to address the academic needs of all students.
  • Collect and use student achievement and progression data to improve and revise instructional programs.
  • In collaboration with building principals observe classroom instruction to evaluate curriculum implementation (content materials pedagogy pace and standards) student performance and program effectiveness and to provide information to principals for use in improving teacher performance.
  • Assist in the administration of district and statewide assessments.
  • Oversee curriculum data and student data management systems.
  • Assist in the coordination of district remediation programs.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of district and state assessment data with regards to the following: the achievement of students work samples and other pertinent information affecting the design and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Assist schools in the development implementation and evaluation of school improvement plans.
  • Assist principals in problem solving with their school community.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation relative to the instructional program in accordance with local state and federal guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation budgets and in the preparation of bids and/or quotations for the purchasing of instructional materials and/or equipment (including repair and maintenance thereof).
  • Ensure that appropriate instructional resources and reference materials are available to support Mathematics and Science instruction.
  • Plan for and assist appropriate supervisors with staff development activities for school personnel.
  • Use analyses of district and statewide data to assist schools and the district in developing professional development activities correlated to identified areas of need.
  • Remain current in the research that supports curriculum development instructional program design and delivery and assessment.
  • Disseminate information about current trends research and practices to school and parish personnel.
  • Communicate the program of instruction to school personnel and community.
  • Maintain effective liaison with the State Department of Education and other school districts to keep abreast of new developments in education.
  • Adhere to Board policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  • Recommend staffing needs and assist in the recruitment and selection of new personnel.
  • Assist building principals when the need arises to determine whether a Probationary teacher will receive reemployment as evidenced by performance.
  • Attend regular and special meetings of the St. Landry Parish School Board when items pertaining to the jurisdiction of this position appear on the published agenda or when requested by the Superintendent.
  • Represent the school and district at community state and professional meetings.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned.

Additional Duties:

May serve at the direction of the Superintendent as a Principal Supervisor with the following responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and coaching the principal or facilitator of the school(s) or site(s) to which they are assigned.
  • Conducting weekly visits to provide coaching and/or support to principals and/or facilitators.
  • Address stakeholder matters and/or concerns relative to each school or site before being filtered to the respective district staff/department and/or the superintendent.

May serve at the direction of the Superintendent as a Zone Leader with the following responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Superintendents Leadership Team.
  • Assist in the development of objectives for the Division of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment consistent with the stated goals of the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Advise and assist principals on School Improvement and application of Effective School Research at the building site.
  • Conduct field observations in assigned schools to support schoolbased leaders in instructional practices and approve schoolbased leader SLTs; attend PLC meetings to support instruction.
  • Observe feedback on classroom practices and act as a liaison with teachers in other schools and with central office administration and personnel.
  • Communicate through developing newsletters bulletins manuals and handbooks.
  • Encourage the teaching of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Make recommendations on matters of curriculum equality resource and instructional equity monitoring of school and student data.
  • Coordinate elementary middle. and high school staffing in consultation with the School Superintendent.
  • Identify critical and emerging issues of curriculum and instruction and recommend course(s) of action superiors.
  • Identify staff development inservice or training needs.
  • Demonstrate expertise in interviewing evaluating and recommending applicants through the Human Resources Department.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers principals and other instructional personnel and the general public regarding programs of curriculum and instruction and related educational services for elementary or middle or high/alternative school levels.
  • Provide input on policies and procedures affecting elementary or middle or high/alternative schools and/or facilities programs.
  • Facilitate the provision of various pupil support services such as transfers race relations discipline hearings and suspensions.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

Supervisors shall be expected to perform the following duties along with the completion of corresponding documents forms and reports.

SelfEvaluation

  • Complete a selfevaluation and document the results on appropriate written forms.

Professional Growth Plan

  • Develop a Professional Growth Plan in collaboration with the evaluation.

Supervision

  • Supervise Principals Assistant Principals and other employees reporting to the specific Supervisor position.
  • Complete and/or assist in the preparation/implementation of employee pre and post observations evaluations Intensive Assistance Plans and other associated tasks and monitoring.

Instructional Components

  • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of those in supervisory positions.
  • Collaborate with those providing and overseeing schoolbased instruction as well as professionals providing ancillary services.
  • Review draft study recommend and implement policies curriculum and plans to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Conduct school/class walk throughs.
  • Participate in Instructional Leadership Team meetings.

Noninstructional Components

  • Attend meetings generally associated with the instruction of students.
  • Attend faculty staff and department meetings.
  • Attend training sessions.
  • Attend job fairs and related events.
  • Attend IEP/IAP meetings.
  • Attend Central Office and Department meetings.
  • Attend backtoschool and openhouse events.
  • Attend graduation.
  • Interview employ and complete necessary hires.
  • Attend PIP Evaluation Observation IAP and student discipline meetings/hearings.
  • Attend school board/committee meetings upon request.
  • Participate in the preparation of necessary disciplinary documents and corresponding disciplinary process.

Physical Demands:

  • The position involves frequent movement within the school environment including classrooms offices and meeting spaces to observe instructional practices provide support to teachers and facilitate professional development sessions. The ability to lift and carry educational materials training resources and equipment is essential. Occasional travel may be required for school visits professional development sessions meetings or other workrelated activities.

Terms of Employment: 12 month 1.55 index)

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130.
