Job Description:

Madison College has an opportunity for a Custodian to join the team parttime. This role involves handson manual tasks related to a range of custodial duties. What sets this position apart from other custodians is the level of effort and autonomy it demands. While receiving instructions from supervisors or lead custodians it doesnt oversee peers at the same level and isnt the sole custodian for a particular building. The Engineering/Operations Manager or Facilities Custodial Supervisor provides guidance with potential additional input from the custodial lead worker for exceptional tasks.

The Custodian may also involve directing the work of and receive assistance from student help temporary workers and work study personnel.

This parttime 20hours a week position is based at Madison College Truax Campus with a work schedule of Tuesday Friday 8:00pm12:00am and Saturdays 1:00pm 5:00pm.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The following are duties typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Decision making processes include:
    • Use of hazardous and dangerous chemicals Decisions on how to use them when to use them and how to mix them.
    • Use of proper PPE decisions on what PPE to use for different processes to protect themselves and others around them.
    • Planning work schedule to complete runs each night.
    • Working around sensitive documents.
    • Directing student help contracted help and part time staff.
    • Decisions on what machines and tools to use for different tasks and situations.
  • Performs general routine cleaning duties within Madison College facilities to include but not limited to the following:
    • Dusts sweeps and mops all hard floors.
    • Vacuums and spot clean carpeted surfaces and rugs
    • Cleans and empties all waste receptacles.
    • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and fixtures.
  • Performs general routine noncleaning duties within the MATC facilities to include but not limited to the following:
    • Performs room setups and teardowns for scheduled events.
    • Restocks and maintains inventory levels of custodial supplies.
    • Picksup and sorts recyclable materials.
  • Comply with college policies directives and work rules.
  • Other duties as defined by department college or officials.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of basic math electricity plumbing.
  • Knowledge of proper use of hand and small power tools and custodial equipment (vacuums auto scrubbers extractors rotary floor cleaners shop vacuums and other miscellaneous equipment) associated with custodial tasks.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures associated with custodial tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • HS DiplomaGEDor equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Six 6 months of work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
