Job Description

Position Summary

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D: $46590 $94363 9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $14384 $29184 3 months)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening at all sites including dual enrollment traditional classroom hybrid or web format and distance education.
  2. Provide clinical supervision on or off campus at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day evening or weekend at any approved clinical site.
  3. Provide competent classroom laboratory and simulation instruction.
  4. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional divisional departmental and individual criteria.
  5. Collect maintain and submit accurate class records including grades attendance rosters absences withdrawal and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  6. Assist in the development of disciplinespecific student learning outcome objectives.
  7. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  8. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  9. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested including course syllabi program outlines and catalog material.
  10. Prepare or assist in preparation of material and evaluation of data to maintain program accreditation compliance as requested.
  11. Participate in scheduled inservice activities.
  12. Participate in nursing program pinning/candlelighting ceremonies.
  13. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  14. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  15. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge improving teaching skills and updating professional competencies.
  16. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses industries and agencies.
  17. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  18. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  19. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  20. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Masters degree in Nursing with at least eighteen 18 graduate semester hours in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of three 3 years fulltime clinical work experience in a direct patient care role as a registered nurse is required.
  3. A current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or a multistate license in resident state is required.
  4. Demonstrated expertise in adult health and/or critical care through teaching or work experience is required.
  5. Documented successful experience teaching and/or developing webbased courses is required.
  6. Documented evidence in the proficiency of use of current educational technologies in the classroom including internet email and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint etc. is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience conducting and coordinating campus laboratory and simulation experiences for first and second level nursing students is preferred.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  3. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  4. Previous experience using Blackboard or other course management software platforms from an instructor standpoint;
  5. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy and new software as required;
  6. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  7. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  8. Ability to work effectively with diverse students other employees and the public;
  9. Commitment to all students including those of diverse ages cultures genders and ethnic backgrounds;
  10. Understanding of the broad range of students abilities in an openadmissions college and the ability to accommodate varied learning styles;
  11. Successful problem solving skills;
  12. Conscientious care about how work is done and desire to do a good job;
  13. Initiative responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  14. A focus on detail;
  15. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to students;
  16. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that knowledge;
  17. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet student needs;
  18. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
  19. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  20. Confidence in decisionmaking and communication skills.
