Brief Description of Duties

The position serves as Director of Campus Services (Facilities Director) at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). The position works under the authority of the Vice President and Associate Vice President of Facilities & Real Estate Management


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the University has satisfied appropriate facilities operations and maintenance requirements that correspond to its stated mission and the rules and regulations propagated by Federal and District entities.
  • Ensure the care upkeep maintenance and daily operation of all University facilities and grounds and in doing so provide all academic and administrative units with conducive physical environments and available facilities.
  • Oversee the management of a diverse group of employees including managers specialists and support personnel.
  • Oversee the management of all daily operations for the Universitys portfolio of real property and assets and establish a detailed set of maintenance activities and evaluation procedures for ongoing physical needs. Particular attention shall be given to the operation of the Van Ness Central Plant and HVAC systems at each of the campuses.
  • Develop a feasible plan for maintaining continuous operations of buildings systems which have far exceed their life expectancy 25 years).
  • Develop comprehensive tracking and reporting procedures for levels of deferred maintenance for review by the Vice President and Associate Vice President of Facilities & Real Estate Management as well as senior leadership at the University.
  • Provide oversight of budget and finances as they relate to campus services and facilities operations via continuous and comprehensive analysis as well as the review of specific program and budget objectives.
  • Establish policies procedures and lines of authority for campus services work.
  • Ensure that the University complies with all facilityrelated environmental and energy mandates and uses best practices in every aspect of facilities maintenance and operation.
  • Facilitate the preparation of reports related to facilities management and the overall performance of University facilities including energy conservation measures andenvironmental compliance.
  • Oversees management of contractors (bids contracts scheduling assessment) including janitorial snow removal construction HVAC MEP etc.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture Engineering Construction Management Planning or Public Administration and / or ten 10 years of related experience in facilities and real estate management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in the operation & maintenance of HVAC equipment and control systems. Familiarity with computerized HVAC and building energy systems.
  • Experience and skill in managing educational facilities and the staff responsible for their care and upkeep.

Residency Preference:A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position may be awarded a 10point residency preference over nonDistrict applicants unless the person declines the preference points. If selected the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

DrugFree Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the DrugFree Workplace Act of 1988 the individual selected to fill this position will as a condition of employment be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor in writing not later than five 5 days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a satisfactory backgroundinvestigation is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
