The FBA team is looking for a passionate curious and creative Research Scientist with expertise in operations research machine learning or statistics preferably with a focus on pricing and market design and a proven record of solving business problems through scalable modeling and analytical skills. As a research scientist in the team you will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting edge optimization and ML models building automated inventory logistics capacity and revenue management systems while collaborating with business and software teams to solve key challenges facing the worldwide FBA business. Such challenges include 1 designing endtoend supply and demand management systems 2 developing and improving optimization and ML models to support FBA sellers in growing their businesses 3 creating decisionsupport tools that minimize the cognitive burden on sellers in navigating supply chain and operational complexities 4 ensuring worldwide Amazon customers have access to the broadest selection of products from FBA sellers and 5 driving cost efficiencies across endtoend FBA supply chain. Sellers are a crucial part of Amazons ecosystem playing an integral role in our mission to offer the Earths largest selection and lowest prices. FBA is a service that enables thirdparty sellers to outsource order fulfillment to Amazon and leverage Amazons worldclass facilities to provide customers Prime delivery promise. By partnering with Amazon sellers benefit from powerful costeffective solutions that leverage our scale and technology gain access to Prime members worldwide boost their sales and free up time to focus on inventing amazing products for customers. To further ease supply chain and operational complexities for our selling partners Amazon introduced Supply Chain by Amazon (SCA) an endtoend fully automated suite of supply chain services. With SCA Amazon handles everything from picking up inventory from global manufacturing facilities shipping across borders managing customs clearance and ground transportation to storing inventory in bulk managing replenishment across Amazon and other sales channels and delivering directly to customers all without sellers having to worry about managing their supply chain. A pivotal service within SCA is Amazon Warehousing and Distribution which offers bestinclass bulk storage and distribution services ensuring sellers remain wellstocked across all their sales and fulfillment channels while reducing overall supply chain costs. The FBA team is at the heart of this operation responsible for inventory management automated replenishment fulfillment pricing resource planning capacity management and a wide range of operational recommendation services for sellers. We focus on understanding seller behavior and experience building automated tools and assistants recommending optimal actions designing seller policies and incentives and developing sciencedriven products and services that empower thirdparty sellers to grow their businesses. We develop and innovate sciencedriven solutions at the intersection of machine learning statistics economics operations research and data analytics. PhD or Masters degree and 4 years of quantitative field research experience
Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
Ph.D. in Operations Research Machine Learning Statistics Computer Science Applied Mathematics Operations Management Industrial Engineering Economics or a related field.
2 years of experience in solving complex problems in the area of operations research statistics or machine learning as well as in developing strategies for largescale supply chain transportation and logistics networks.
Ability to perform quantitative economic and numerical analyses of largescale systems under uncertainty using statistical and optimization tools such as Python R and XPRESS to determine solution strategies for complex decisionmaking problems.
Fluency in using mathematical optimization or machine learning to develop solution methods to be used by inhouse decision support tools and software.
Proficiency working with Python SQL and/or C/C.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills while addressing both technical and business people ability to speak at a level appropriate for the audience and skills to present business cases and document models analyses and results to influence important decisions.

2 years of handson experience in using models to solve complex realworld business problems.
Experience in supply chains transportation and logistics models.
Significant peerreviewed scientific contributions in premier journals and conferences.
Programming experience using at least one modern programming language such as Python Java or C.
Proficiency in development validation and implementation optimization or machine learning models for largescale applications.
Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to nonexperts.
Proven ability to work effectively in a crossfunctional team.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
