EARLY INTERVENTION/EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION SPECIALISTEVALUATOR

Definition The EI/ECSE Specialist Evaluator works with an evaluation team to establish special education eligibility for young children including attending weekly staffing meetings scheduling evaluations conducting comprehensive developmental evaluations with a partner reviewing evaluation results providing evaluation information to EI/ECSE services teams and staying abreast of technical and legal requirements and guidelines for establishing and documenting EI/ECSE eligibility.

Qualification The requirement of a Masters Degree in special education early childhood education or a related field is preferred. The person in this position must currently hold or is eligible for an endorsement of Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Specialist or licensure associated with a specific professional discipline whose services are provided to the early childhood special education population. Experience and training is also required in EI/ECSE programs working with children with various disabilities and their families in evaluating early childhood development and handicapping conditions and in the technical and legal requirements for establishing special education eligibility. Experience with behavioral intervention strategies preferred. In addition the person in this position must possess good organizational skills oral and written communication skills data collection and reporting skills. The person must also be able to perform significant reaching bending stooping crouching and lifting. Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel on a flexible schedule.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of the current literature and issues in the field of child development
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of current practices in assessing overall child development
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of handicapping conditions and their assessment
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of the process for establishing and documenting EI/ECSE eligibility
  5. Ability to provide timely and effective oral and written communication
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of the process for developing Individualized Family Service Plans
  7. Awareness of and commitment to abide by confidentiality requirements in all situations
  8. Interpersonal skills sufficient to work and communicate effectively in a small intimate team of professionals
  9. Interpersonal and organizational skills sufficient to work effectively with professionals from a variety of other agencies also serving young children and their families
  10. Conduct development evaluations with a team for young children using a variety of testing instruments and procedures and report the results to families and EI/ECSE services teams for children who qualify for services
  11. Facilitate the process for establishing EI/ECSE eligibility including accurate documentation through completion of legal paperwork and written reports of evaluation results
  12. Review the evaluation process paperwork and reports provided by other team members
  13. Collect and report data related to evaluation activities
  14. Develop and organize evaluation schedules in a variety of sites
  15. Conduct weekly team staffing/planning meetings for children referred for evaluation
  16. Conduct Individual Family Service Plan meetings as needed in conjunction with the eligibility evaluation
  17. Communicate appropriately and regularly through email
  18. Respect and maintain confidential information in all situations
  19. Fulfill other related duties as assigned

Terms of Employment A contract renewable annually by the Board of Directors conditioned upon successful evaluations and the employees maintenance of a current valid certificate or license. Salary and benefits are established by policy and collective bargaining agreement.
