Description

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing speech therapy services to individuals with developmental disabilities in Helping Hands Outpatient Clinic.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:

  • Onsite position weekdays.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Salary range $60000$68540/year (exempt).
  • Salary based on skills and experience.
  • Quarterly bonus potential.

A TYPICAL DAY FOR YOU AT HH:

  • Provide direct speech language pathology services including hearing screenings to clients across the lifespan throughout Helping Hands outpatient clinic day program and/or residential program.
  • Demonstrate genuine care and compassion for all clients; build rapport with families and caregivers.
  • Complete evaluations daily notes treatment plans progress reports as required and annual reevaluations for all clients on caseload; complete all documentation ethically accurately and timely; coordinate with billing coordinator and Associate Director of Clinical Services to complete insurance authorizations.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to maximize billing and client care and participate in formal supervision with supervisor at least monthly.
  • Collaborate with outpatient clinic team to strive for continued expansion and improvement of clinical services to best serve clients with developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to provide continuity of client care.
  • Provide home programming and training to parents/guardians/caregivers to ensure carryover of therapy; provide parent education in a genuine and supportive way.
  • Work with front desk staff to maintain prompt appointment schedule.
  • Maintain a caseload of 35 clients/week with an average billing expectation of 120 hours/month; eligible for quarterly bonus incentives based on billable hours.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of outpatient clinic treatment spaces; work with Associate Director to create functional spaces for outpatient clinic team.
  • Manage therapy equipment; complete maintenance requests for broken or damaged equipment in partnership with supervisor.
  • Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive/receptive language or speech sound disorders.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and meet with fellow team members as needed to support client goals.
  • Provide inservice training to staff and others as appropriate to advance knowledge.
  • In partnership with the Associate Director participate in and/or plan parent educational presentations related to speech language pathology services and treatment as well as Helping Hands clinical services.
  • Support and participate in Helping Hand agency fundraising and education initiatives such as annual gala holiday events 5k etc.
  • Ensure the rights of clients are protected and services are provided to the highest level of quality.
  • Meet quality and compliance requirements as set forth by Helping Hand DHS IDPH CARF and other pertinent regulations including the fulfillment of all necessary training requirements.
  • Observe precautions and procedures to protect the security of protected health information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Work on a multidisciplinary team with other clinicians serve as an active member of the care team for clients and attend client IDT meetings as needed.
  • Must attend all team/agency meetings as scheduled and actively participate in agency committees such as Intake HRC/BMC etc. as assigned.
  • Maintain a regular work schedule along with being available and dependable during varying hours including evening and weekends in accordance with the positions needs.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner by meeting deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

LAND THIS OPPORTUNITY BY HAVING:

Education:

  • Masters or doctorate degree in speech language pathology.
  • Current unrestricted active speech language pathology license with the state of Illinois.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) through the American SpeechLanguageHearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellow (CF).

Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Skill Sets:

  • Proficient and comfortable with technology such as Microsoft Office Teams Zoom etc.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional problemsolving and time management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize multiple urgencies as required.
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record with proof of ongoing personal motor vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to selftransport to work and site visits.
  • Must be able to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Desire to take leadership and initiative in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and flexibility to adapt to changes throughout the day.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the entire team to ensure safe and efficient delivery of services while utilizing strong conflict management and team building skills.

  • Ability to fulfill all necessary training requirements of the agency including but not limited to crisis management (crisis management training includes deescalation strategies and physical management techniques).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The person in this position may encounter clients exhibiting physical aggression; must be comfortable working in periods of crisis and feel comfortable deescalating individually or as a team.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to assist clients/students access file cabinets office machinery etc.
  • The ability to observe details at a close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Consistently position self to maintain files in cabinets or assist clients/students.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in all situations.
  • Must be able to follow Helping Hand procedures during emergency situations and provide safety and security of individuals along with Helping Hand property.
