Description

This position will primarily work MF days but may require an occasional evening or weekend shift. Candidates must have BSN and either have or compete an MSN within 3 years of hire. Nursing Professional Development certification required within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification exam. Two years of teaching experience preferred may be nonacademic).

Atrium Health Levine Childrens Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service to provide care for the growing population of children in our region. At 247 beds LCH is the largest childrens hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high acuity patients as the flagship childrens hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 30 different pediatric specialties. We have 4 pediatric hospitalist teams a 10 bed PICU a 10 bed Cardiac ICU (expanding to 24 bed PICU and 20 bed CVICU by the end of 2024 an 85bed Level IV NICU and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation floor. Levine Childrens Hospital is also Charlottes only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. LCH has been named a Best Childrens Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 17 consecutive years and is nationally ranked in 10 pediatric specialties. Currently LCH is ranked as the #1 childrens hospital in North Carolina and tied for #1 in the southeastern United States. Additionally Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Levine Childrens Hospital have earned Magnet redesignation from The American Nurses Credentialing Centers (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. Magnet designated health care organizations showcase excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Job Summary
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist is a Registered Nurse who influences
professional role competence and professional growth of learners in a variety of settings and
supports lifelong learners in an interprofessional environment that facilitates continuous learning
and development. By serving in roles including Learning Facilitator Change Agent Mentor
Leader Champion for Scientific Inquiry Advocate for the NPD specialty and Partner for
Practice Transitions the NPD Specialist contributes to the protection of the public by influencing
learning change professional role competence and growth to stimulate optimal patient care
and health promotion. Responsibilities of the NPD Specialist include onboarding/orientation; competency
management; education; role development; collaborative partnerships; and research evidence based
practice and quality Improvement at the enterprise level. A registered nurses practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.


Essential Functions
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist will:
Assess practice gaps.
Identify learning needs.
Identify desired outcomes.
Establish a plan that prescribes strategies alternatives and resources to achieve expected outcomes.
Implement the plan coordinate educational initiatives and actives and facilitate positive learning and practice environment.
Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
Integrate ethics in all areas of practice.
Maintain current knowledge and competency in nursing and professional development practice.
Be a champion of scientific inquiry generating new knowledge and integrating best available evidence into practice.
Systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development practice.
Act as a change agent.
Provide leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
Collaborate with interprofessional teams leaders stakeholders and others to facilitate nursing practice and positive outcomes for consumers.
Evaluates personal practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines and relevant statutes rules and regulation.
Considers factors related to quality safety effectiveness and cost regarding professional development activities and expected outcomes.
Advance the profession and the specialty through mentoring and contributions to the professional development of others.
Influences structures processes and behaviors to improve health and social equity in all interprofessional practice and learning environments.
Models Atrium Health mission vision and values.

Education Experience and Certifications
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. BLS required per policy guidelines. Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state in which you work and reside or; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for NonNational License Compact states current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works.
Masters in nursing nursing education or healthrelated program required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with emphasis in education is preferred. Must have or complete MSN if undergraduate degree is not BSN. Must be enrolled in the appropriate
Masters program upon hire/transfer date and must complete program within 3 years of enrollment in the program. If undergraduate degree is BSN a degree from a health related program or MBA is acceptable.
Appropriate professional certification (Nursing Professional Development or related
clinical or educational certification) required within 1 year of eligibility for professional certification exam.
Two years of teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of adult learning principles curriculum and program development program
evaluation.
