Pediatric Admission and Recovery UnitThe Pediatric Admission and Recovery Unit is located at the Sanford Medical Center and is a 12bed unit.
This unit admits and discharges patients 017 years of age for scheduled diagnostic procedures tests and surgeries.
Prior to the scheduled intervention all patients are screened to assure that all needed information is present and the patient has met all criteria to assure a safe anesthesia surgical or procedural experience.
Nurses work closely with anesthesia and physicians. In addition Child Life Specialists are a very important part of the team.
All members of the teamwork hand in hand with parents and family members to provide familycentered care.
Work with all specialty procedures such as: Pediatric General Surgery wound care orthopedics rheumatologist hem/oncology nephrology ENT neurosurgery medicine & Rehab etc.
Staffing mix: RNs Nursing Assistants and Child Life Specialists
Nurse Patient Ratio: Varies dependent on whether the patient is in the preoperative phase or the postanesthesia phase.
Schedule: Staff do a combination of 8s 10s 12s unit hours 5:15am 17:30/until last patient leaves.

Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment diagnosis outcomes/planning implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients.Job Description
Collaborates with other interprofessional colleagues including physicians to plan implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care health maintenance diagnosis treatment and followup as patients move along the continuum of care. Responsible for the planning and coordination of care patient assessment patient education triage and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited nursing program required including but not limited to American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelors Degree in nursing preferred.Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
