The North America Stores Regionalization team at Amazon is looking for a highly skilled Economist II to guide experimental design conduct feature validation and perform treatment effect analysis for ReSES an experimental system that runs tests for highimpact initiatives. These initiatives will enhance how Amazon connects customers with nearby product offers and local inventory creating a more efficient shopping experience with faster delivery options for products strategically positioned close to customer locations.
Regionalization significantly improves Amazon retail operations by optimizing fulfillment networks reducing cost to serve customers providing them with relevant and locally available purchase options and enhancing their overall shopping experience. In this role youll help determine which products benefit most from regional availability by analyzing customer preferences sales economics and product substitutability. Youll utilize advanced science and econometrics tools to simulate regions validate High Value Actions calculate substitution effects and efficiently support strategies for regional programs and regionalization initiatives across the business. Youll ensure compatibility with existing buying and merchandising systems while meeting the needs of retail teams worldwide. Your responsibilities include designing evaluating measuring refining and launching simulations/experiments for Regional Programs models and metrics that enhance the customer experience and optimize for Long Term Free Cash Flow (LTFCF).
Key job responsibilities This complex area requires the following key responsibilities: Design A/B tests and experiments related to regionalization and conduct statistical analysis on their results. Deep dive on different metrics. Scale optimization techniques to drive business value. Apply and develop scalable stateoftheart methods in timeseries econometrics to solve business questions. Translate business questions and concerns into specific quantitative questions that can be answered with available data and rigorous science. Partner with scientists and data engineers to deploy models to production. Communicate results to customers and provide scientific guidance to senior leadership through written and verbal presentations.

PhD in economics or equivalent
2 years of industry consulting government or academic research experience Knowledge of at least one statistical software package such as R Stata Matlab SAS Experience in prediction and forecasting in a research or industrial environment Experience with handling of large datasets
