Covia is looking for a dynamic Health Safety and Environmental Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Fort Smith AR location. As an HSE Supervisor you will supervise and administer the HSE programs in a manner consistent with corporate and governmental standards.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:

  • Assume responsibility for plant safety health and environmental programs.
  • Inspect the plant monthly and submit a written report to the plant manager superintendent and all supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain a regular area inspection program involving all employees at the plant.
  • Maintain and direct an active safety training program including MSHA Training and Monthly Safety Meetings.
  • Maintain and update monthly a prioritized list of safety items requiring attention from data gathered from plant inspections safety meetings shift reports and MSHA inspections.
  • Administer record keeping for all employee task training safety training corporate safety procedures and plant specific procedures and policies. Maintain all environmental health and safety activities in designated information systems.
  • Accompany Safety Health and Environmental inspectors during onsite inspections.
  • Perform sampling measuring reporting for corporate and government agencies as required to maintain compliance for all water withdrawal and discharge policies and permits.
  • Direct the plants Hearing Conservation Programs.
  • Investigate and prepare reports of accidents/injuries that occur on plant property including employee personal injury property damage and nearmiss accidents.
  • Monitor and restock supplies in plant firstaid centers.
  • Monitor the fire extinguisher program to ensure appropriate and adequate equipment is installed and maintained in work areas and mobile equipment.
  • Prepare and submit the MSHA quarterly report.
  • Prepare and submit (in the time frame allowed 10 days) the MSHA Form 70001 (Accident Injury and Illness Report) when a reportable accident occurs.
  • Perform various activities to maintain compliance with required local state and federal laws and all associated permit regulations including: NPDES Water Sampling and Reporting air quality monitoring and annual storm water inspection planning and maintenance.
  • Prepare maintain a record of all employee safety training including MSHA Form 500023 (Certificate of Training).
  • Maintain communications with the Corporate Safety Health and Environmental Department.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of all applicable MSHA and Covia safety and health policies procedures and regulations.
  • Make all arrangements for drug testing pursuant to company policy. Provide transportation for any persons deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Administer the safety boot and eyeglass program as per plant policy.
  • Support/lead activities to support all ESG criteria.
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering science or related field required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience is required
  • MSHA experienced preferred or OSHA experience considered
  • Strong presentation and leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Software: Word Excel PowerPoint & SharePoint.
