Job Description
What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is looking for a Regional Health & Safety Specialist for Construction that functions as a liaison with project teams and construction field staff and has the responsibility to assist in preventing reducing and eliminating harmful situations. It is a great opportunity for someone that wants to move into Health & Safety. This position will be remote.
How you can make an impact
- Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of federal and state environmental health and safety (EH&S) regulations to ensure H&S program elements are implemented at the appropriate organizational level.
- Assists in performing periodic review evaluation and modification of applicable H&S program elements including reviewing 12 SOPs/Programs in the IIPP annually.
- Supports implements and sustains the SCS safety culture and provides training and assistance related to development and maintenance of applicable behaviorbased safety program elements.
- Provides technical/administrative guidance to all regional personnel related to implementation of the SCS H&S program including promoting situational awareness and stop work authority. Encourages avoidance of complacency while conducting work.
- Ensures that employee training on new/modified equipment and/or processes has been developed and delivered to the target population(s); and has been accurately documented including heavy equipment ATV/UTV use excavation & trenching confined space entry among others.
- Investigates and evaluates accidents and nearmisses fully documenting all investigative facts and findings producing an accident investigation report recommending the appropriate corrective action(s) and assisting the responsible person(s) in their implementation.
- Serves SCS clients on selected projects in providing health and safety professional services including H&S training and document development among other things.
- Addresses SCS health and safety issues in offices and at project sites. Makes recommendations provides written guidance and provides related training as appropriate.
- Conducts one emergency response drill annually at any major office where OM&M has major presence/maintain emergency equipment as needed
- Conducts inperson New Employee Orientations with field staff potentially mentoring 1 or more staff for a period up to 6 months from hire date
- Coordinates implementation of new SiteSpecific Health and Safety Plans and reviews/consolidates existing plans.
Qualifications
- 710 years of relevant solid waste or similar construction experience required 3 years of which in heavy equipment operation. Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent from other employers.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the installation and construction of LFG collection systems to include well drilling well completions HDPE pipe fusion heavy equipment operation trench safety materials use and handling hand and power tool safety
