Position Summary

This position is responsible for the provision of spiritual support to patients and families in keeping with the patient/familys desire and belief system. The Care Advocate provides counseling and crises intervention in order to adequately address the spiritual needs of hospice patients and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry. Master of Divinity preferred.

Credentials:

None

Experience:

Experience working with patients and families dealing with life threatening illnesses and death.

Core Competencies:

Ability to be open flexible and ecumenical. Ability to provide spiritual sensitivity to patients and families of all faiths and religious affiliations. Knowledge of beliefs and practices of cultures related to death and dying. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with dying patients and their families. Possesses a sympathetic attitude toward caring for the hospice patient and demonstrates positive communication skills in interacting with other members of the hospice team. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

Valid drivers license reliable transportation and auto insurance.
