Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Security seeks a passionate and innovative Data Scientist for the AWS Vulnerability Management (AVM) team. At AWS security is job zero and our AVM team leads the way in securing our cloud services. We continuously raise the bar for security by blending analytics data science cybersecurity skills and technical expertise to protect our customers and the cloud. We are datadriven set big goals and are always challenging ourselves and each other to identify better solutions and take on new challenges. We build automated mechanisms to detect vulnerabilities asses risk and mitigate risk across AWS.
As a Data Scientist you will build algorithms and automation with GenAI and ML techniques to analyze billions of data points daily. We are still Day 1 and have an exciting road map to build Machine Learning (ML) and Generative AI (LLM) powered detection and resolution systems to help scale Amazon for years to come.
We are seeking an AWSome Applied Scientist to join our team and help tackle challenging problems at the forefront of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers data scientists and domain experts you will play a crucial role in pioneering ML/AIpowered customer experiences and solutions. Key job responsibilities
Drive the research design and development of novel ML/AI models and systems to power critical products and services
Collaborate crossfunctionally to deeply understand business requirements customer needs and technical constraints
Rapidly prototype test and iterate on ML/AI solutions iterating quickly based on data and feedback
Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders Mentor and grow a team of talented ML scientists and engineers
Stay uptodate on the latest advancements in AI/ML and identify opportunities to apply emerging techniques
A day in the life
1. Starting the day by reviewing the latest model performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement
2. Brainstorming new ML architectures and approaches with your crossfunctional team during a whiteboard session
3. Diving deep into a complex dataset leveraging advanced statistical and ML techniques to uncover hidden insights
4. Prototyping a new ML model and running a series of experiments to optimize its performance
5. Preparing a presentation to pitch your latest research findings with your customers and making joint recommendations to product and engineering leaders for how to improve the security program at scale.

2 years of data scientist experience
3 years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL) scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R SAS Matlab etc. experience
3 years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques and parameters that affect their performance experience
Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
Experience in Python Perl or another scripting language
Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity signon payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
