Job Description

Summary:

The ASPCAs Community Engagement program based in New York City improves access to vital pet services by connecting pet owners to low or nocost veterinary care spay/neuter pet supplies surrender services and more. This is done through inhome visits case management and community events. Outreach and awareness level training to allied professional audiences like law enforcement and human service organizations is paramount to building the programs client base and conducting multiagency approaches to resolving interconnected human and animal welfare needs.

The Senior Manager Community Engagement (CE) will lead a team of four community engagement coordinators in building strong relationships with communitybased organizations (e.g. social services law enforcement faithbased organizations government agencies etc. facilitating new case referrals promoting our partnership with the NYPD increasing access to ASPCAs services through events across the five boroughs leading mobile grooming events and safely transporting NYPD animals to our hospital on 92nd street. The Sr. Manager will partner with community stakeholders and support development of strategic alliances to reach pet owners increase awareness of the ASPCAs services and compel petinclusive approaches to service delivery.

This position will be based at the Long Island City ASPCA office location. Work will take place throughout the five boroughs of NYC at various partner locations. This position may require a rotating schedule and must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

People Management 50

  • Supervise and support a team of four Community Engagement Coordinators (CECs) including coaching professional development career development.
  • Deliver regular and effective performance management feedback to CECs.
  • Manage staff scheduling ensuring consistent and effective coverage for outreach events field work NYPD transports and departments operational support.
  • Manage the CECs to identify solutions for complex casework including medical care spay/neuter temporary boarding and foster housing support and supplies to increase pet retention.
  • Respond to directives from Senior Director Community Engagement and deliver expectations and followthrough with the team.
  • Manage the interviewing hiring and onboarding of new staff as appropriate.
  • Lead direct reports through annual goalsetting conversations that cascade from organizational and departmental programmatic areas of focus.
  • Write and deliver annual evaluations to direct reports.

Program Management 30

  • Lead collaborate and develop outreach and community engagement plans to maximize referrals to the Community Engagement program.
  • Manage a minimum of seven Paws & Police vaccine events with the NYPD across the boroughs aiming to vaccinate 1000 pets per year through these events.
  • Manage the planning implementation and of 24 mobile grooming events per month with the Manager Casework Training & Events.
  • Manage and oversee planning timelines and team for HLEs major annual events including National Night Out and Heroes in Human Service Awards.
  • Manage large scale NYPD and Community Engagement cases that require the physical removal and transport of animals.
  • Lead the weekly briefings with the CE team to address and fulfil programs operational needs.
  • Research new partners to increase programs casework and to add to the source of referrals for mental health adult protective substance abuse job placement and other services as needed.
  • Develop and deliver trainings for communitybased organizations and government agencies on animal welfare and the inclusion of animal issues in human services and case management.
  • Represent Community Engagement in weekly meetings that include management from Client Member & Support Community Medicine and ASPCA Animal Hospital. Problem solve any operational challenges communicate department updates back to the team.
  • Prioritize the partnership with the NYPD and identify opportunities to collaborate and strengthen our relationship/work.
  • Manage daily care (cleaning kennels and habitats walking and feeding dogs and cats providing enrichment doing laundry etc) for animals from NYPD cases 12 times per week for up to 4 weeks on a few occasions per year with flexibility to extend in certain circumstances.
  • Oversee the CE Referrals inbox to ensure timely response and case assignments.
  • Manage and prioritize boarding referrals. Work directly with the Adoption Center on feasibility then provide case management on these unique cases.

Special Projects and Professional Development 20

  • Plan organize and facilitate 24 CE Training Days per year. Training Days include participation from partner departments and/or individual Subject Matter Experts.
  • Deliver consistent training development and operational support for direct reports.
  • Conduct highlevel and specialized presentations to NYPD and other audiences to promote the CE program and facilitate referrals.
  • Identify and pursue career development opportunities annually leveraging internal and external training resources.
  • Promote CE and HLE initiatives through internal communications (WorkVivo) media and engagement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. stand for long periods and work outside in various conditions
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Strong team player as well as ability to work independently
  • Must possess a valid NYS drivers license and be comfortable driving in the New York City in all weather conditions
  • Flexibility in work schedule; weekend and offhours are required

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to education training experience location business needs internal equity market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
