Other Conditions: Parttime nontenure track annually renewable depending on performance and/or departmental needs. To begin approximately June 2025 subject to position clearance and availability of funds. First review begins May 8 2025 with continuous recruitment until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and academic instruction to medical students residents and fellows with a specific focus on medical students.
  • Administer programs in research education or clinical care which may include chairing committees developing educational or clinical programs and developing and implementing evaluation tools.
  • Conduct research educational or clinical programs independently or collaboratively.
  • Participate in the acquisition of extramural funding to the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM)/Department of Surgery.
  • May serve at the discretion of the Department Chair as Director of the Surgical Medical Student Education which includes but is not limited to overseeing all medical student clerkship matters in surgery.
  • Serve on departmental school and/or University committees.
  • Other scholarly activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD degree or equivalent medical degree from a medical school of recognized standing.
  • Board certification in general surgery and recertification when appropriate.
  • Graduate of an ACGMEaccredited general surgery residency program.
  • Minimum of four(4 years at the rank of Assistant Professor or four 4 years of other medical experience or one 1 year in the rank of Associate Professor at another medical school of recognized standing.
  • Eligible for unrestricted Hawaii Medical License.
  • Proven ability in teaching research program administration and patient care.
  • Minimum of one(1 year experience serving as a Surgical Clerkship Director or minimum of two 2 years as an Associate Surgical Clerkship Director.
  • Publication record in peerreviewed journals of relevant specialty.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a multi cultural environment.
