We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina and we would love to have you as a member of our team!Science Service SustainabilityThis position serves as an Air Quality Evaluator/Inspector for the Bureau of Regional and Lab Services. You will be performing inspections and complaint investigations in support of SCDES roles and responsibilities for overseeing the protection and preservation of South Carolinas environment and natural resources.
Job Responsibilities:- Conduct routine inspections of major and minor air sources for compliance with regulations and standards.
- Perform visible emission observations and successfully complete semiannual smoke school activities.
- Provide advice and technical assistance to industries municipalities and the general public on state and federal air quality laws and regulations.
- Work with regional air staff in scheduling assignments and performing evaluations according to agency policy procedures and time frames.
- Respond to air complaints as well as other regional program complaints as needed.
- Coordinate with Central Office air laboratory in maintaining and operating ambient air monitoring/sampling network.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- An associate degree in a related technical field;
- OR a high school diploma and two 2 years of environmental health or related experience. Certification in the environmental field qualifies as related experience.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:- Able to provide outstanding customer service in a fastpaced environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Work effectively in a teamoriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers industry and government officials.
- Work independently in a field environment.
- Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period.
- Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access nontraditional work environments.
- May require:
- Daily travel throughout the state.
- Occasional overnight travel.
- Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with or knowledge of air quality related activities.
- Knowledge of environmental health regulations.
- Data management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional (Word Excel PowerPoint).
