Job Description

Please note that this is an entrylevel position which would not be eligible for relocation support for candidates that need to relocate to the London area. Public transit is limited for those without vehicles.  This role also requires availability to work shifts on a rotating schedule (Days Evenings & Weekends).  

  • Duties may include sample reception sample identification sample preparation sample dilutions setting up analytical batches and analysis batch Quality Control use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Read plates and test tubes as required to determine number/presence/absence of organisms in samples.
  • Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required.
  • Experience in membrane filtration pour plate and other microbiological techniques preferred.
  • Process samples make media and reagents using aseptic technique.
  • Ensure samples are cataloged and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
  • Calibration and set up of laboratory equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Interpreting and evaluating results.
  • Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
  • Follow all company health safety and environmental policies.
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols report discrepancies to the Supervisor.
  • May be asked to work in other areas of the Environmental Services laboratory sections.
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications :

    A postsecondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Biology Microbiology Biotechnology) or equivalent experience or training required
    Ability to perform routine bench and instrumental analysis including ability to understand assay methods
    Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment
    Must be comfortable with numerals to monitor data on a computer screen.
    Must be able to read understand and follow work instructions in a safe accurate and timely manner.
    Must possess strong analytical skills 
    Working knowledge of LIMS is an asset
    Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
    Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
    Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook)
    Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
    Ability to work well with others & independently.
    Experience in an ISO 17025 accredited lab is an asset
    Extended hours and shift work may be required 
    Ensures full compliance with the companys Health & Safety Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct policies.
