Job Description

General Summary


JeffersonMadison Regional Libraryis seeking candidates to be considered for the position ofBranch Support Stafffor the Scottsville Librarywho are highly motivated and who support JMRLs Mission Statement to foster personal growth and lifelong learning for all by connecting people with ideas information and each other.

The preferred starting salary for this position is $15.00 hourly $31200.00 annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education experience and internal equity. This position performs responsible paraprofessional duties at the Scottsville Library providing all library circulation services routine reference and assisting library patrons under the general supervision of the Branch Manager.

Education Experience and Skills

Education and Experience:Candidates may qualify by demonstrating the required knowledge and skills outlined for the job through experience(s) other than formal education.

Preferred:
  • Library work experience.
  • Knowledge of library computer software programs.
Certifications/Licenses/Other Requirements:
  • Required to successfully pass a preemployment background check.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule including days evenings and weekends.

  • Basic familiarity with the work to know common principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

  • Knowledge of online information sources and the ability to use them effectively in research and reference situations.
  • Knowledge of the navigation and use of nonfiction and print reference collections to support reference inquiries.

  • Intermediate: ability to read and understand written materials such as newspapers magazines journals multistep instruction manuals and reference materials.
Writing:
  • Basic: ability to write simple letters paragraphs and sentences containing subject verb and object and/or series of numbers names and addresses.
Math:
  • Basic: Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition subtraction multiplication division).

  • Routine: Regular & routine interaction involving providing or exchanging basic information. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers.
