Metro Transit a division of the Metropolitan Council is the largest provider of public transit service in the MinneapolisSt. Paul sevencounty metropolitan area and one of the countrys largest public transit systems. Metro Transit operates bus light rail and commuter rail service essential to the regions mobility and provides resources for carpooling vanpooling and bike commuting. Metro Transit helps people get where theyre going helps reduce the regions motor vehicle congestion problem and promotes a cleaner environment.

The Equity and Inclusion Program Specialist assists the Senior Manager Equity and Inclusion in enhancing and implementing a comprehensive Equity and Inclusion Strategy at Metro Transit including:

  • Develops and coordinates the implementation of E&I program initiatives around employee outreach and engagement.
  • Coordinates the implementation of Metro Transit initiatives around workforce analysis and effectiveness using equity lenses.
  • Assists with developing training or other programming to educate employees on what is Equity and Inclusion how to integrate it into their work.
  • Coordinates and facilitates E&I Outreach and Communications activities.
  • Serves an internal consultant role advises or consult with managers supervisors and other employees in groups or individually on how to integrate E&I into their core business.
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. Candidates permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

What you would do in this job

3. In partnership with Councils LOD Department develops training or other programming to educate employees and managers on how to recognize accommodate and appreciate individual differences and how these can be bridged back to assist in meeting company business plans:

  • Assist with the design of E&I program presentations using multiple media resources to be used in webinars and staff workshop training.
  • Creates training materials (slides handouts).
  • Delivers E&I Program training to employees managers and key stakeholder groups.
  • Review and update training curriculum for improvements and additions utilizing staff and participant evaluations.

4. Coordinate and facilitates E&I Outreach and Communications Program activities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to enhance Metro Transit reputation for diversity and inclusion including content for Metro Transit website and intranet outreach promotional materials brochures formal presentations newsletters news releases and social media outlet.
  • Identify opportunities and strategic partnerships that deepen external engagement.
  • Ensures communication activities align with the E&I program strategy plan and goals.
5. Keeps current on Equity and Inclusion Programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g.. professional association and educational groups and professional development efforts)

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Any of the following combinations of related experience (organizational development and change public transportation Diversity administration policy development race equity human resources dealing with equity change or public sector work. and completed education (degree field of study inPublic Administration Public Policy Psychology Sociology Business or Management or closely related field.

  • Experience developing diversity equity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Experience coordinating and managing projects.
  • Experience in leading and facilitating meetings with complex and detailed materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in cultural competence and working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
What knowledge skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job.
  • Knowledge of diversity equity and inclusion history theory practice.
  • Knowledge of approaches/best practices to influence consult and drive change.
  • Skills in project coordination/management.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to inspire participation and commitment across the agency.
  • Ability to work cross functionally engage in coordination across departments and the broader organizational hierarchy.
  • Ability to develop strategies and plans.
  • Ability to work independently with other functions to design develop and implement diversity equity and inclusion programs.
  • Ability to deliver hiimpact solutions within a limited budget.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Councilyou must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only) and a background check which verifies education employment and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a casebycase basis based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.

If you are already an employee of the Metropolitan Councilyou must pass a drug test (if moving from a nonsafety sensitive position to a safety sensitive position) and criminal background check if the job youre applying for is safety sensitive is a supervisory or management job is in the Finance Information Services Audit or Human Resources departments or has access to financial records files/databases cash vouchers or transit fare cards.
