Job Description

Adjunct Faculty Behavioral Medicine

Physician Assistant Studies Program Ohio Dominican University

Position Summary

Ohio Dominican Universitys Physician Assistant Studies Program invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position to teach Behavioral Medicine. We seek a Physician Assistant (PAC) Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN/NP) or Physician (MD/DO) with clinical expertise in psychiatry behavioral medicine or primary care with a behavioral health focus.

This position will provide inperson oncampus instruction in psychiatric and behavioral health conditions equipping future physician assistants with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients with mental health needs across various healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lectures casebased discussions and interactive learning activities on topics including:
    • Common psychiatric disorders (depression anxiety bipolar disorder schizophrenia)
    • Substance use disorders and addiction treatment
    • Psychopharmacology and nonpharmacologic interventions
    • Suicide prevention crisis intervention and deescalation techniques
    • Behavioral health considerations in primary care and emergency settings
    • Medical and motivational interviewing and assessment of the psychiatric patient
  • Assess student learning through written assessments case studies and assignments utilizing program specified educational platforms.
  • Provide feedback and support student development in behavioral health competency for clinical practice.
  • Ensure course content aligns with ARCPA accreditation standards and PA program learning outcomes and competencies.
  • Collaborate with PA faculty to integrate behavioral medicine into the broader curriculum and participate in course improvement efforts.
  • Student meetings as needed to address knowledge gaps or content remediation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PAC APRN/NP or MD/DO with minimum of two years clinical experience in behavioral medicine psychiatry or related fields.
  • Experience teaching precepting or mentoring students in a clinical or academic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for medical education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in a PA program or medical education setting.
  • Experience working in integrated behavioral health models or interprofessional teams.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and evidencebased teaching strategies.
