Job Description

Title: Mortgage Loan Originator

Location: Springbrook Farms Alcoa TN


The purpose of this position is to expand the credit unions residential mortgage loan portfolio by cultivating new and existing relationships assisting potential borrowers to choose the right mortgage product and advising borrowers throughout the mortgage process. This position provides prompt professional and courteous support and assistance to internal departments retail branches and members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides friendly responsive service to all members; cultivates and maintains appropriate relationships with members and coworkers; abides by UT Federal Credit Unions Global and Departmental Service Standards and encourages teammates to do the same.
  • Achieves referral and/or sales goals set forth by the credit union.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality with all member information.
  • Assists in developing the credit unions residential mortgage loan portfolio by cultivating new and existing relationships. This will be executed by
    • Leveraging established relationships
    • Partnering with local area real estate brokers and centers of influence (COIs) to establish lending opportunity referral sources and
    • Networking and participating in community events.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of UT Federal Credit Unions residential mortgage products to ensure that members are placed in the product that best fits their financial situation. Maintains a thorough knowledge of other credit union products and services to identify crosssell opportunities that benefit the member.
  • Processes first mortgage and home equity loan applications including
  • Interviewing loan applicants and providing the necessary counselling on loan options rates terms and collateral requirements
  • Evaluating the applicants financial status by reviewing the required information for a credit application
  • Working closely with Processors to ensure that all conditions are met for closing
  • Managing a pipeline of leads and loans in process
  • Communicating loan decision and conditions to members in a timely manner and
  • Participating in loan closings.
  • May assist with the processing of member business loans applications.
  • Performs Medallion Signature Guarantee services and notary services as requested by members.
  • Serves as Relationship Manager to assigned accounts serving as the first point of contact with members. Includes duties such as onboarding maintaining member relationships and marketing outreach efforts.
  • Actively participates in branch and allstaff meetings to maintain awareness of organizational issues and promotional campaigns; stays current on policies procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Attends training classes to continuously increase job knowledge and overall job performance in order to provide exceptional service to our members. Takes initiative for personal career development and seeks opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Other duties may include managing complaints resolving problems and answering questions regarding UT Federal Credit Unions products and services.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Mortgage Development Specialists exhibit excellent communication skills by listening to members needs and offering expert advice on products and services in a positive friendly manner in order to build lasting relationships with members. Mortgage Development Specialists also exhibit patience and empathy and are responsive when dealing with members and employees. Successful Mortgage Development Specialists will be focused wellorganized individuals with the ability to think on their feet. They will be comfortable in a sales environment and will demonstrate a strong sales ability by identifying products and services that meet member needs. They will consistently achieve referral and/or sales goals. Charisma a team spirit and the ability to work in a dynamic environment are essential. Mortgage Development Specialists are able to think creatively to find solutions and are motivated to take initiative as appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No supervisory responsibilities required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintains the highest standards of ethical behavior.
  • Maintains a positive attitude with employees and members and remains flexible while focused on accepted practices policy productivity and effectiveness.
  • Promotes awareness of the credit union mission and brand statement to the credit union membership.
  • Abides by the Service Standards established by the credit union.
  • Knowledge of financial products and services.
  • Compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act) requiring registration through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).
  • Demonstrated sales skills and ability to meet sales goals.
  • Has regular predictable attendance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate professionally.
  • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with established dress code.
  • Technological skills and knowledge including computer literacy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree; plus one to three years related experience in sales and lending services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
