SUMMARY: The EHTA supports the delivery of heatbased pest control services to community members focusing on the safe and effective eradication of bed bug infestations. Working under the Lead Technician the Assistant plays a critical role in preparing treatment sites operating specialized equipment and ensuring safety protocols are strictly followed. This position is physically demanding and requires careful attention to both health and safety procedures due to the extreme conditions involved in the work. The EHTA will also be responsible for the kennels and the animals that are held at the Animal Control.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Assist with preparation of residential units for beg bug treatment including moving furniture and sealing rooms to retain heat.
- Operate and monitor heating equipment and industrialgrade fans to raise and maintain the temperature of infested areas at or above 130F.
- Rotate in and out of treatment zones as part of a twoperson safety team complying with the maximum exposure time of 5 minutes per entry.
- Regularly reposition objects to ensure deep heat penetration checking under cushions behind furniture and inside drawers.
- Observe for any signs of heatrelated illness and immediately follow emergency response protocols if symptoms are noticed.
- Interact respectfully with residents providing basic information about preparation safety and followup care after treatment.
- Record activities observations and treatment outcomes maintaining accurate service logs and assisting with program reporting.
- Clean maintain and safely store all pest control equipment.
- Feed and water that animals that are held at the Animal Control.
- Clean kennels daily and maintain a daily log of cleaning feeding and watering.
- More duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification in beg bug treatment and thermal remediation techniques required.
- Completion of safety training courses in heat exposure and pest control safety protocols preferred.
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record preferred (if travel to treatment sites is required).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds above shoulder level without assistance.
- Must be able to stand bend kneel crawl and walk for extended periods during the workday.
- Capable of repetitive physical tasks such as moving furniture loading/ unloading equipment and working in confined or cluttered spaces.
- Must be able to climb stairs maneuver through tight areas and occasionally access elevated or lowclearance zones.
- Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment plug in sensors attach fans and handle treatment materials.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Frequent work in extreme heat environments exceeding 130F for short periods (maximum 5minute exposure).
- Must work as part of a twoperson safety team using the buddy system and respond to potential heat exhaustion symptoms quickly.
- Work performed in residential environments with potential pest activity clutter and strong odors.
- Exposure to dust allergens and chemical residues during pre and posttreatment procedures.
- Must wear and tolerate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves face coverings and heatresistant clothing.
- Frequent travel within the community to treatment sites; occasional afterhours or weekend work may be required based on urgency.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Must pass background check physical and preemployment drug screen.
- Possession of a valid Nebraska Drivers License is required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate experience operating heat remediation systems industrial fans temperature sensors and related pest control equipment.
- Understanding of safety procedures for heat treatments including symptoms and responses related to heat exhaustion and overexposure.
- Strong physical awareness and ability to assess risks in hightemperature environments.
- Effective verbal communication skills for working with team members and residents.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively in highstress or timesensitive situations.
- Strong organizational and observational skills to ensure comprehensive and thorough treatment coverage.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely and maintain accurate logs and records.
