Represent the laboratorys chemistry section (blood alcohol breath alcohol program seized when discussing testing status and capabilities with Alaska law enforcement and attorneys.
Supervise forensic scientists assigned to the chemistry section by providing feedback and support effective communication and goal setting.
Work cooperatively with other laboratory supervisors and top management to ensure chemistry section priorities and decisions align with the laboratorys mission and objectives.
Monitor and manage chemistry section testing request turnaround time backlogs and individual outputs to ensure delivery of services is acceptable to our stakeholders.
Assess and authorize routine supply purchases for the chemistry section discipline and identify equipment replacement and/or expansion needs.THE BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM:
Members of the supervisor team are granted substantial autonomy when making decisions for the disciplines they lead. Work schedule start times are flexible 6AM9:30AM) with each day being 8 hours MondayFriday. The laboratory will provide on the job continuing education and training opportunities with a focus on leadership quality assurance and technical content related to the discipline supervised.THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
The primary location for work is the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory located in Anchorage AK where a large percentage of time will be spent in an office environment communicating with stakeholders and lab employees via email Microsoft Teams and facetoface meetings. Will occasionally travel outside of Anchorage due to court obligations stakeholder training and/or external continuing education opportunities.We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in natural science physical science forensic sciences criminalistics or a closely related field
And
One year of experience as a Forensic Scientist 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
Special Note:
Employees will be expected to successfully pass annual proficiency/competency tests.
Appointments to positions in the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory are subject to background requirements per ASCLD/LAB and the Department of Public Safety. A criminal background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
