Position Overview
As the Telecommunications Supervisor in the 911 Telecommunication Services Section for the Division of Statewide 911 provides computerassisted radio dispatching services for law enforcement personnel. Maintains personnel and operational files and prepares associated records and reports. Acts as a liaison between Information Services command personnel and local nonLEADS terminal criminal justice agencies. Serves as the coordinator for the Learning Management System (LMS). Continuously reviews employee performance and prepares periodic performance evaluations. Assigns and reviews work and provides guidance and training to assigned staff. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Essential Functions
- The Communications Center Supervisor plans supervises and coordinates a 24/7 state police telecommunications center.
- Monitors subordinates for compliance with Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Traffic Information Planning Systems (TIPS) National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Computerized Hot Files (CHF) Computerized Criminal History (CCH) Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Secretary of State (SOS) State Alcohol Licenses (SALOON) National Warning System (NAWAS) and Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) rules regulations policies and procedures.
- Administers the Telecommunicator Trainee Program at the communications center level providing onthejob training of new employees.
- Serves as working supervisor.
- Testifies in court concerning operational policy the accuracy and content of communications documents and other issues interrelated with the apprehension of suspects by law enforcement officers.
- Identifies system and equipment operational deficiencies; recommends potential solutions.
- Serves as 911 and communications consultant on operational matters to the Illinois State Police command personnel at the work location and to local criminal justice agencies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four 4 years of college with major coursework in communications administration psychology public administration sociology speech or related coursework; Telecommunicator Call Taker/Specialist experience accepted yearforyear for required college.
- Requires four 4 years progressively responsible experience in a Law Enforcement telecommunications information system such as LEADS/CAD performing work such as a Telecommunicator Call Taker/Specialist and Lead Worker.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers three 3 years of experience in law enforcement communications including: procedures FCC rules and regulations law enforcement computer systems (such as CAD NLETS NCIC FOID SALOON CCH) law enforcement filing the records systems law enforcement terminology and concepts security and privacy regulations.
- Prefers two 2 years of experience as a lead worker or supervisor responsible for providing guidance and training to subordinate staff.
- Prefers two 2 years of experience recognizing malfunctions of equipment and coordinating several radiocomputer functions simultaneously.
- Prefers two 2 years of experience working with Microsoft Office software applications including Word Excel and Outlook email.
- Prefers two 2 years of experience posting and filling overtime assignments.
- Prefers two 2 years of experience with scheduling and adjusting work shifts.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to pass an Illinois State Police background check and drug screening.
- Requires the ability to obtain LEADS operator certification within the probationary period.
- Requires ability to respond to emergency callout after normal work hours.
- Requires ability to work overtime.
