The Public Safety Technician performs technical level work in the prevention and detection of violations and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This position will perform work often in remote field locations to ensure facilities and equipment are operational janitorial services and will occasionally assist Troopers with surveillance patrol duties evidence handling and processing.

This position is located and works fulltime out of the Alaska State Troopers Ketchikan Post. The office environment includes administrative professionals commissioned staff and criminal intelligence professionals.
The daily work environment offers a variety of quiet work periods controlled chaos and potlucks. We work hard but also enjoy the camaraderie of our team. Eighteen years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of employment.
Special Note:
Must have a current valid Alaska Drivers License at time of employment.
Job duties require lifting and carrying of loads weighing up to 70 pounds over rough or uneven surfaces. As a condition of employment the Department of Public Safety will require a physical examination to determine the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
A background investigation including a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes will be made.
Most positions are seasonal and may require work in remote sites where employees may quarter in bunkhouses vessels or tents.
Employees must be available for recall to testify in court during the off season; if this occurs they will be compensated.
AND
Six months of experience performing patrol and surveillance duties and identifying recording violations and documenting criminal activity. This work experience is met by service as a Public Safety Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Six months of field experience involving fish or wildlife management habitat protection. This experience includes work such as a Fish and Wildlife Technician with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Six months of experience as a commercial fisher; licensed hunting or registered sport fishing guide; or assistant deckhand or similar person who worked directly under the supervision of and on the same vessel/hunting trip as a licensed or registered guide.
OR
Six months of qualifying military experience that involved working outdoors in inclement weather conditions and patrolling and surveillance duties.
OR
Six months of experience performing semiskilled duties working in and/or around aircraft. This experience includes work such as general labor and maintenance of aircraft equipment and/or facilities; cleaning washing and/or assisting with fueling aircraft to return to field; or other support tasks.

Must possess a current valid Alaska Drivers license at time of employment.

This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidates credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.
