JOB SUMMARY:
The Supervisor of Lab SendOuts oversees and coordinates all aspects of tests and referrals to outside reference laboratories and third parties. The supervisor may perform the duties of the sendout coordinators as needed. Receive process log track and follow up requests for further testing consults second opinions and continued care from pathologists outside physicians outside facilities and patients. Monitor billing inquiries and processes for requests.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise daytoday operations of the sendouts department.
- Take the lead on issues to resolution.
- Research miscellaneous new sendout requests tests as needed.
- Coordinate and track specimens sent to external reference laboratories and third parties.
- Monitor turnaround times and ensure proper specimen handling and documentation.
- Train schedule and evaluate sendouts staff performance.
- Collaborate with lab pathologists and administrator to resolve issues and improve services.
- Maintain and update the associated sendout protocols and improve/change processes as needed.
- Works with the billing department to ensure proper coding for reimbursement.
- Monitor sendout costs and assist in costcontainment efforts.
- Is the liaison for other reference labs and communicates with hospital personnel or other designated liaisons regarding charges that they may incur
- Investigate and resolve errors or delays in testing.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies (e.g. CLIA CAP Joint Commission).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in a laboratory science or related field preferred.
- MT/MLS/MLT certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred.
- Training or experience in medical/pathology terminology is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years of lab/reference lab experience with at least 1 year in a sendout or reference lab coordinator role.
- Supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
Additional Job Qualifications:
- Excellent typing/data entry skills with LIS experience.
- Must be able to adapt to changes in the work schedule and work process.
- Must possess good analytical and problemsolving skills be detailoriented able to multitask possess excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize work based on the demands.
- Must possess good judgment able to work independently as well as part of the team with excellent computer phone and verbal communication skills.
- Problemsolving and decisionmaking abilities.
