About Us:

Founded in 1968 to meet the postsecondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The Colleges fifth president Dr. Mary Way Bolt reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Cecil College is centrally located in Marylands most northeastern county just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore as well as from Wilmington Delaware.

With a diverse student population Cecil College enrolls approximately 2500 credit students and 3400 noncredit students. Cecil offers associate degrees certificate programs and noncredit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

Through its open admissions policy Cecil College provides learning opportunities for all who have the desire and ability to benefit from its courses and programs regardless of age gender ethnic origin sexual orientation disability or socioeconomic status.

Employees of Cecil College including instructors for online and virtual courses must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware Pennsylvania Virginia West Virginia or the District of Columbia.

Summary of Job Description

Cecil College is seeking a Life Skills Instructor to develop and deliver highquality direct instruction for individuals with special needs focusing on essential life skills basic hospitality home maintenance and career readiness. This role is key in promoting independence confidence and community integration through adaptive teaching strategies realworld practice and ongoing support. The ideal candidate will foster a positive inclusive learning environment while working collaboratively with other support teams to help everyone achieve personal growth and meaningful progress.


Responsibilities

  • Basic hospitality skills (e.g. table setting greeting guests customer service principles)
  • Home maintenance (e.g. cleaning routines simple repairs laundry organization)
  • Lifestyle and daily living skills (e.g. hygiene nutrition time management budgeting)
  • Tailor lesson plans to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of participants
  • Support students in practicing skills in realworld or simulated environments
  • Collaborate with families caregivers and case managers to track progress and set goals
  • Promote independence and confidence through positive reinforcement and encouragement
  • Maintain detailed documentation of individual progress and instructional outcomes
  • Ensure a safe respectful and inclusive learning environment

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelors degree in education social work or related field preferred).
  • Experience collaborating with individuals with special needs is required.
  • Knowledge of hospitality practices and home maintenance tasks.
  • Effective communication and people skills.
  • Patience creativity and a commitment to promoting personal growth and independence
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction.
  • Teaching or training experience highly preferred.

The salary for the position is $25.00 per hour. Schedule: Varied weekdays 3 hours over the course of 612 weeks.
