Why CDOT
This Equipment Mechanic IV position is a supervisory position located in the Region 1 Section 5 Maintenance section located in Aurora Colorado. As the Equipment Mechanic IV you will supervise and assist field mechanics. You will establish work schedules and priorities on equipment and monitor completeness of work. You will ensure that safety and industry workmanship standards are followed in the shop. You will be responsible for providing technical assistance to mechanics maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment and preparing reports of shop activities.
Your duties and responsibilitieswill include but are not limited to the following:
Experience Only:
Seven 7 years of relevant experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair with at least three 3 years of experience must be with the diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment such as 10ton double axle snowplows tractortrailers bulldozers motor graders paving machines and/or 15 mower tractors.
OR
Education and Experience:A total of seven 7 years of education and experience in any combination of the following:
Automotive AND heavy equipment repair with at least three 3 years of experience must be with the diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment such as 10ton double axle snowplows tractortrailers bulldozers motor graders paving machines and/or 15 mower tractors.
Education in automotive or diesel equipment or a formalized apprenticeship program. (A copy of the transcript must be provided with the application materials.

Some oncall and shift work may be required.
May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test) and DOT physical through our medical provider.
New employees are required to attend two weeks of maintenance training in Aurora while veteran CDOT employees are required to attend training one week out of each year in Aurora.
Preferred Qualifications
Theexceptional applicantwillpossess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section.
Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position.
Extensive experience with troubleshooting diagnosis and repair of automotive and heavyduty diesel vehicles and equipment. Experience with equipment up to 10 tons is highly desirable.
Medium/Heavy truck ASE Certifications in Diesel Engine Drive Trains Brakes Suspension and Steering Electrical/Electronic Systems Heating Ventilation and A/C is preferred.
Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations.
Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy.
Strong commitment to safety.
Must have knowledge and knowhow to use computers for vehicle diagnosing data input record keeping and email and have the ability to quickly learn other software.
