Description of Work
The Dental Hygienist position is located at Eastern Correctional Institution in Hookerton which houses approximately 477. Reporting to the Dentist the position is responsible for performing the following duties under the general supervision of a licensed dentist.
- Examining the teeth of patients and making referrals to the dentist.
- Applies topical fluorides and performs dental prophylaxis to prevent dental diseases.
- Records findings and records on dental status and services rendered to patients.
- Instructs patients on the proper care of teeth.
- Recommends measures for the prevention of dental diseases.
- Assists the dentist in planning and carrying out dental health programs.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidencebased compassionate and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive fullspectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release.
The team of physicians nurses behavioral health services dental services psychiatric services pharmacy services and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent acute routine and chronic health care as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and wellbeing towards a safe transition from prison improving public health and decreasing recidivism.
