Why Join Our Team
We are looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our team. You will perform professional and technical environmental work relating to natural resource enhancement and improvement projects throughout the city. Youll be responsible for monitoring and systems assessment and will lead our Environmental Monitoring Program. Youll support Capital Improvement Program during design and post construction with aquatic ecosystem issues as a subject matter expert in aquatic ecology. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with internal teams external agencies and community partners to ensure highquality environmental monitoring and datadriven decisionmaking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adaptively manages guides and promotes the Bellevue streams Environmental Monitoring Program to assess the health of our aquatic resources. Develops effective and efficient adaptive management monitoring and reporting strategies to evaluate the performance of City investments.
- Provides scientific guidance on salmon ecology habitat restoration and stormwater management planning efforts.
- Translates environmental monitoring data into actionable insights. Develops technical reports and presentations to communicate findings to operational and planning staff policymakers regional partners and the public.
- Manages contracts and budgets for technical services.
- Conducts biological and physical assessments and analyses of ecosystem health
- Understands data management and analysis ability to write technical reports in support of stormwater strategic initiatives and Environmental Monitoring Program management
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Works under the general supervision of the Engineering Planning Manager.
- No formal supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills andAbilities
- Ability to manage environmental programs and projects.
- Knowledge of freshwater ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest stormwater impacts and environmental monitoring techniques.
- Knowledge of natural areas management techniques such as salmon restoration and aquatic invasive species control.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to initiate coordinate provide followup and complete diverse projects involving natural resource management.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to overall management goals and objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public coworkers and elected and appointed officials.
- Understanding of database management data synthesis and statistical analyses. Ability to write technical reports.
- Knowledge of wide variety of municipal state and federal codes regulations and ordinances surrounding aquatic resources and fisheries.
- Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university with a degree in biology fisheries zoology marine sciences or a related field.
- Five or more years of professional related experience dealing with environmental protection and preservation in the areas of environmental monitoring and aquatic habitat assessment and restoration.
- Or any equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
- GIS proficiency desired.
- Microsoft Office products proficiency desired.
- SharePoint proficiency desired.
